Born on March 24, 1949, in the serene town of Pahala, HI, Gwendolyn was a beacon of strength and resilience for all who knew her. She bravely fought a five-year battle with stage 4 lung cancer, demonstrating her unwavering spirit and determination to the very end, surrounded by her loved ones in her home in Captain Cook, HI. Gwendolyn was the cherished daughter of Alfred Rafael and Marcelina Sacay. She was predeceased by her beloved sons Derrick Sumida, Daryl Sumida, and Christian Ahquin, as well as her dear brother Mike Sacay. She is survived by her devoted husband of 53 years, Anthony L. Brigoli, with whom she shared a rich tapestry of life and love, and 11 children who brought endless joy and laughter to their home. Her legacy also includes 17 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense pride and happiness to her life. Gwendolyn also leaves behind 7 siblings who will forever hold her memory close. Gwendolyn's life was a testament to her boundless energy and passion. A proud graduate of Konawaena High School in 1968, she moved on to a career that showcased her versatility and dedication. Her professional journey included working at Hughes Aircraft in Los Angeles, California, and later as the owner and operator of Stumblin'/Gifu Bento and Royal Kona Resort in Kailua Kona, HI. Her work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit were admired by many. An active member of any church her husband Anthony attended, Gwendolyn's faith was an integral part of her life. Kona Gospel Church was the last congregation she joined, where she found solace and community. Her love for bowling was unparalleled; she lived and breathed the sport, achieving recognition in Sports Illustrated in 1977 as part of the California Women Bowling Association. Her passion for family and animals was equally profound, always evident in her actions and words. Gwendolyn was known for her snappy attitude and stubbornness, qualities that defined her unique outlook on life. Her resilience was an inspiration to all, and she will be remembered as the strongest woman, a fighter until her last days. A celebration of her life will be held at 8:00 AM on August 14, 2026, at the Kona Gospel Chapel Pentecostal, located at 81-1037 Nani Kupuna Pl, Kealakekua, HI 96750. The Brigoli Ohana wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of love and support during this time.
