Gustavia Mitchell-Minix
August 22, 1968 — March 24, 2026
It is with deep sorrow and profound love that we announce the passing of Gustavia Mitchell-Minix, a cherished daughter, sister, and friend. Gustavia departed this life peacefully on March 24, 2026, at the age of 57, surrounded by the warmth and love of her devoted family in Leesville, Louisiana.
Born on August 22, 1968, in Leesville, Gustavia was the beloved daughter of Joseph and Helnora Reed-Minix. Her upbringing in this close-knit community laid the foundation for a life filled with compassion, kindness, and an unwavering commitment to those she loved.
Gustavia's life was marked by her dedication to family and friends. She was a beacon of strength and sincerity, always ready with a listening ear and a comforting word. Her nurturing spirit and infectious laughter will be dearly missed by those who had the privilege of knowing her.
In August of 1990, Gustavia married Mitch Mitchell. Though their paths eventually diverged, they remained connected by mutual respect and shared memories. While Gustavia and Mitch did not have children, she poured her love into her family, particularly cherishing her role as an aunt to her many nieces and nephews.
Gustavia's caring nature extended beyond her immediate family, touching lives with her generosity and kindness. She had an innate ability to uplift others, and her compassionate deeds left an indelible mark on her community.
She is survived by her loving mother, Helnora Reed-Minix of Lafayette, Louisiana, and her dear sister, Bridgette Minix-Ervin of Houston, Texas. Gustavia now joins in eternal rest her father, Joseph Wayne Minix, and her brother, Evan Minix, whom she missed dearly.
A celebration of Gustavia's life will be held on April 3, 2026, at 8:00 AM at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, located at 1110 S 10th St, Leesville. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance and gratitude for the beautiful soul that Gustavia was. Following the service, refreshments will be available at the repass, and the family extends their heartfelt thanks to all who come to pay their respects.
In this time of mourning, we find solace in knowing that Gustavia's spirit lives on in the hearts of those she touched. Her legacy of love and kindness will continue to inspire and guide us. May she rest in peace, surrounded by the eternal light and love she so generously shared with the world.
