It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Gussie Hightower, a beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, who departed this world on June 24, 2023, at the age of 78. Born on October 14, 1944, in the warm and welcoming town of Tifton, Georgia. Gussie was the cherished daughter of Mae and Sandy Hightower, who instilled in her a deep sense of compassion and resilience. Her family moved to Michigan at the age of two years. Gussie was preceded in death by her brothers, Willie and Lawrence Hightower, who she now joins in eternal rest. She leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness through her surviving family: her devoted daughter, L'Seanna, and her cherished grandchildren, whose lives she enriched with her wisdom and warmth. A woman of remarkable intellect and unwavering determination, Gussie pursued her education with vigor, earning a Bachelor's degree in Biology and Chemistry from Lawrence Technical University. Her thirst for knowledge and passion for helping others led her to further her studies, achieving a Master's in Nursing from the University of Phoenix. She grew-up looking at Perry Mason and Forencis files on televison of quest her persue of case files. Her career was a testament to her dedication to caring for those in need, bringing comfort and healing to countless individuals throughout her life. Gussie's spirit was one of service and community. As an active member of Trumph Church, she devoted her time to numerous community groups and companies, always eager to lend a hand and uplift those around her. Her smile had the power to lighten the most difficult of subjects, and her willingness to assist those in need was a hallmark of her character. In her personal life, Gussie found joy in the simple yet profound pleasures of home. She had a passion for decorating her surroundings, transforming her home into a haven of warmth and beauty. Her empathy extended beyond her immediate family, as she cared deeply for the sick, abused, those suffering from dometic violence and those shut-in. She was well known to extend her time and resources to who needed her. A memorial service to celebrate and honor the life of Gussie Hightower will be held on April 15, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Swanson Funeral Home, located at 1600 Schaffer. Friends and family are invited to join in remembrance and to share in the love that Gussie so freely gave during her lifetime. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all the caregivers who donated their time and resources, Offering support and kindness during this transitional period has indeed helped, our family in our grief. Your generosity and compassion have been a source of comfort during these difficult days. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made in Gussie's memory to a charity of your choice, honoring her legacy of giving and her unwavering commitment to helping others. Gussie Hightower will be dearly missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
