Obituary of Grover R. Hewett
It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Grover R. Hewett, cherished son, brother, uncle, and friend, who left this world on June 19, 2026. Born on March 11, 1962, in the quaint town of Southport, North Carolina, Grover's life was a testament to love, service, and unwavering dedication to his community and family.
Grover was born to Henry and Pauline Hewett, who instilled in him the values of kindness, generosity, and a steadfast work ethic. He was predeceased by his beloved father Henry and his dear sister Shirley Ann Hewett, who undoubtedly welcomed him with open arms in the afterlife. His memory will forever be cherished by his devoted mother, Pauline Hewett, and his four brothers—Henry, John, Paul (Queen), and Lee—along with his caring aunt, Mabell Deshields. Grover's legacy of love continues through a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and a wealth of friends and extended family who will miss him dearly.
A proud alumnus of South Brunswick High School, Grover graduated in 1981 and embarked on a remarkable career with Brunswick County Schools, beginning as a school bus driver during his 10th-grade year. Over the span of 31 years, he served as a Bus Driver, Assistant EC Teacher, and Cafeteria Worker, touching the lives of countless students and colleagues with his infectious spirit and dedication.
Grover's passion for service extended beyond the classroom. For over 15 years, he was a devoted member of the Sunset Harbor Zion Hill Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as a former Assistant Fire Chief. His commitment to the safety and well-being of his community further led him to the Coastline Volunteer Rescue Squad, where he dedicated over 13 years as a driver and Assistant EMT, always ready to lend a helping hand in times of need.
His culinary talents were as impressive as his community service. Grover was known for his delicious contributions at the Seafood Barn restaurant and later at Jerome's Steak and Seafood, where he worked for over 20 years until his health began to decline. His presence was a staple in the kitchen, where his laughter and warmth were as abundant as the meals he prepared.
Grover's heart was as generous as his smile, and he was known for his willingness to help anyone, often using his last dime to support those in need. His kindness and generosity left an indelible mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
A celebration of Grover's life will be held on June 27, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Ocean View Missionary Baptist Association, located at 45 Headquarters Rd, Sunset Beach, NC. The family of Mr. Grover R. Hewett extends their deepest gratitude to all who have nourished them with prayer, fellowship, food, and condolences during this time of mourning. May the blessings of God overflow to you and yours as Grover's spirit continues to inspire us all.
In remembering Grover, we honor a life filled with love, service, and an unwavering commitment to his community.
