It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Gretchen Ann Johnson, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, and friend, who left us all too soon on May 10, 2026. Born on August 19, 1974, in the charming town of Guttenberg, Iowa, Gretchen graced the world with her boundless energy, infectious laughter, and unwavering compassion. Gretchen was the cherished daughter of Rodney and Jill Kulper, who nurtured her early love for learning and care for others. Her journey in life led her to pursue a nursing degree from Northeast Iowa Community College, followed by a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Upper Iowa University. Her dedication to the field of nursing was a testament to her nurturing spirit, although she often joked about being "so tired of being a nurse." Her career allowed her to touch countless lives, offering comfort and healing to those in need. Gretchen's life was a testament to the power of love and family. She was the devoted wife of Michael Johnson, with whom she shared a marriage filled with laughter, adventure, and unwavering support. Together, they raised four remarkable children: Isaac and his wife Raquel Johnson, Samuel and his wife Carlyn Johnson, and their beloved daughter, Madeline Johnson. Gretchen's children were her pride and joy, and she was their steadfast pillar of strength and wisdom. Her legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren, Julian, Jayme, and Bruno, who brought immense joy and a renewed sense of purpose to her life. Gretchen delighted in her role as a grandmother, often found sharing stories, laughter, and love with her grandchildren, creating memories they will treasure forever. While her passing was sudden and unexpected, as she left us in a moment of vivacity that was quintessentially Gretchen, the love and warmth she shared will continue to resonate in the hearts of all who knew her. Her family takes solace in knowing that she lived her life to the fullest, embracing every moment with an open heart and an adventurous spirit. Gretchen's family and friends will gather to celebrate her life and honor the indelible mark she left on this world. Her legacy of love, compassion, and joy will remain a guiding light for all who were fortunate enough to know her. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her memory to a charity of your choice, as a way to continue spreading the kindness and generosity that Gretchen so effortlessly shared with the world. Gretchen Ann Johnson will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Her spirit lives on in our hearts, reminding us always to cherish life's every moment with the same passion and love that she did.
