It is with hearts heavy yet grateful for having had the privilege of sharing in his remarkable journey, that we announce the passing of Gregory Nelson Hooper. Gregory left this world on March 22, 2026, at the age of 58, doing what he loved most, a testament to his enduring passion and zest for life. Born in Newport, Rhode Island, on January 22, 1968, Gregory was the beloved son of Crawford and Emily Hooper.
Gregory, or "Hoops" to those who knew him well, was a man whose life was marked by service, love, and laughter. A proud Navy veteran, he served his country with honor and dedication. After his military service, he embarked on a career as a truck driver, where he traversed millions of miles and touched countless lives with his warm smile and infectious laughter. Gregory was known for his kindness and generosity, always ready to lend a helping hand and offer a word of encouragement.
Gregory's journey was also one of love. He married his beloved Audrey Lee on August 8, 2024, and together they cherished four extraordinary years of marriage. Their union was one of companionship and shared joy, a partnership that was truly remarkable.
Preceded in death by his father, Crawford Ray Hooper, and his first wife, Patsy Hooper, Gregory is survived by his devoted wife Audrey, his cherished children Carry Marie Coffey, Jeffery Scott Coffey, Fred, Stormy Lee McMinn, and Nova Rain Richardson, and his loving granddaughter, Emma Rose Coffey. His brother Christopher Erik Hooper and brother Talmage Mark Hooper, along with his daughter-in-law Carrieann, Jane also mourn his passing, as do his many nieces and nephews who adored him.
Gregory was a man of faith, whose role as a preacher allowed him to touch souls and spread the message of love and hope. He found solace in the great outdoors, enjoyed the simple pleasures of gardening, and found joy in watching movies. These hobbies reflected the beauty he saw in everyday life and the joy he found in each moment.
A service to honor Gregory's life will be held on April 12, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the Mountain City Funeral Home in Tennessee. Family and friends are welcome to join in celebrating a life well-lived and a man deeply loved.
As the family navigates this difficult time, they extend their heartfelt gratitude to all who have shared in Gregory's life. They send healing love to everyone, embracing the community that supported Gregory throughout his journey.
