April 6, 1955 — March 25, 2026
With heavy hearts and profound respect, we announce the passing of Gregory Martin, a cherished son, brother, uncle, and friend, who left this world on March 25, 2026. Born on April 6, 1955, in the vibrant city of Oakland, California, Gregory was a beacon of warmth, understanding, and steadfast reliability throughout his 70 years of life.
Gregory was welcomed into the world by his loving parents, Riley Martin Sr. and Ruth Martin, who instilled in him the values of kindness, respect, and dedication. He was the youngest of his siblings and is now reunited in eternal peace with his parents and his beloved brothers, Tommy, James, and Rickey Martin.
Greg's early years were marked by a strong foundation in education, graduating from McClymond High School in June 1973 before pursuing further studies at Laney College. His career was a testament to his commitment to service and community. As a Transportation Medical Driver and a USPS Letter Carrier in Oakland, he touched countless lives with his dedication and reliability. Beyond his professional endeavors, Gregory found joy and fulfillment in mentoring young minds as a counselor at the Oakland Boy's Club and as a Little League Baseball Coach, where his gentle guidance and unwavering support left a lasting impact.
A devoted family man, Gregory's greatest joy came from the time spent with his family. He was a beloved brother to Riley Martin Jr., Patricia Martin Jeffrey, Rosie Martin, Money Martin, and Katherine Martin, and a cherished uncle to Yolanda Jones, Devette Ross, Niasaha Martin, and Ashon Martin. His grand nephews and nieces, David Jones Jr., Dalia Sally, Dajia Bongiorno, Jazmyne Jones, Daryous Sally, Destiny Ross, Demetrious Ross, and Vera Bongiorno, were deeply blessed by his love and attention, as he often babysat them, creating memories filled with laughter and warmth.
Gregory was known for his uniquely compassionate and understanding nature. He was the kind of person who truly cared about those around him, always ready with a listening ear or a kind word. Despite life's challenges, he never spoke ill of anyone and was ever the gentleman, even if he occasionally snapped, it was done with respect and love. His reliability and obedience made him a dream child and a pillar of strength for his family and friends.
Greg's legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. His life was a testament to the power of kindness, the importance of community, and the enduring bonds of family. As we remember him, let us honor his memory by carrying forth his spirit of love and understanding in our own lives.
A celebration of Gregory's life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to reminisce and share the joy he brought into their lives. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Oakland Boy's Club, an organization close to Gregory's heart.
May Gregory Martin rest in peace, knowing his life was a blessing to all who had the privilege of knowing him.
