It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gregory Brian Back, he departed this life on August 13, 2026, at his home in New Lebanon, Ohio. Born on May 27, 1963, in Dayton, Ohio. Greg was a cherished member of the community and a beacon of laughter and love to all who knew him.
Greg was the beloved son of Wilgus Back and Nancy Stover. He was predeceased by his father, Wilgus, and his grandparents, Eugene and Christine Denham, and Cleata Mae Noble. He is also preceded in death by his dear nieces, Kristi Back and Brittany Stover, and his nephew, Clinton Back. Greg is survived by his devoted mother, Nancy Stover, along with his children, Jackie Lewis (Shawn) and Dalton Back. He leaves behind three grandchildren: Conner Back, Issac Lewis, and Jude Lewis.
Greg shared a special bond with his siblings, Douglas Back, Donna Back, and Susan Metcalf (Michael), who will deeply miss his presence. He also leaves behind a host of close friends and family, including Greg Miles, cousin Gene Coomer, cousin Linda Begley, Jimmy Arnett, Gene Clark, Joey Willaford and Kevin Miller who all held a special place in his heart.
Greg's education began at Dixie High School, followed by a period of dedicated service in the Army, where he earned an Honorable Discharge. His career was marked by over 30 years of hard work and dedication at Archway, Inc., where he worked alongside his father Wilgus, his brother, and son leaving an indelible mark on the family business.
A man of many interests, Greg found joy in watching sports the Cincinnati Reds and the Cincinnati Bengals , working through crossword puzzles, and expressing his creativity through drawing, listening to music and playing horseshoes. He was known for his quick wit and mischievous spirit, traits that endeared him to his nieces and nephews. Greg was often described as having "nine lives," a testament to his resilience and adventurous nature. In recent times, he found solace in his faith after a conversation with his Uncle Lonny Brown, embracing his Salvation and accepting Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to nephews Sammy Back and Nathan Overhaultz for their love and care during Greg's last months, providing comfort and companionship.
Gregory Brian Back will be remembered for his humor, his love for family, and his enduring spirit. May his memory be a blessing to all who knew him.
