Greg James Devone, a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2026, at the age of 65. Born on April 30, 1960, in Atkinson, North Carolina, Greg was the cherished son of the late Leslie James and Mary Lou Devone. Though he has now joined his parents in eternal rest, his legacy of love and kindness will forever be remembered by those who knew him. Greg grew up in Wilmington North Carolina and graduated from John T. Hoggard High School in 1979. Shortly after, he embarked on a journey to New York, where he dedicated years of service as a compassionate and diligent employee at Holly Pattern Nursing Home. His commitment to caring for others exemplified the warmth and generosity that so many came to admire. Upon retiring, Greg returned to his roots in North Carolina, finding fulfillment in his work with the Town of Belvile. Landscaping was not only a hobby for Greg but a true passion. His artistic touch left a mark on countless gardens and yards, transforming them into vibrant sanctuaries. Greg's dedication to beautifying his surroundings was especially noted by Aunt Mary Humphries, among many others who were touched by his talent and vision. His meticulous attention to detail extended beyond his landscaping work, as he was known for his impeccable taste in clothing and shoes, always presenting himself with style and grace. Family was at the heart of Greg's life. He is survived by his two devoted sisters, Diann Thomas of Knightdale, NC, and Mary Davis of Wake Forest, NC. His three brothers, Alfred (Melissa) Devone of Long Island, NY, John Devone of Jacksonville, FL, and Donell Devone of Rocky Mount, NC, will forever cherish their brotherly bond. Greg also leaves behind two stepbrothers, Robert Lemon of Wilmington, NC, and Kenneth Lemon, as well as two stepsisters, Gloria (Steve) Bowden of Wilmington, NC, and TaKita (Randy) Barnett of Lancaster, MD. His special aunt, Lillie Murray, along with a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends, will continue to celebrate the joy he brought into their lives. The family extends deep gratitude to Robert Lemon, Drica Devone, and Gloria Bowden for their unwavering support and presence during times when it was needed the most. Your kindness and dedication have been a source of comfort, and for that, we are eternally thankful. A celebration of Greg's life will be held on June 13, 2026, at 11:30 AM at Shaw Funeral Home on Red Cross Street, Wilmington, NC. This gathering will honor his life and the indelible impact he made on everyone he met. In remembering Greg James Devone, let us celebrate a life well-lived, filled with love, laughter, and the beauty of simple things. May his soul rest in peace, and his memory continue to inspire kindness and joy in all of us.
