Obituary of Granny Mary Lou Howard
With heavy hearts but profound gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the peaceful passing of Granny Mary Lou Howard, who left this world on May 5, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family at her home. Born on December 11, 1935, in the small town of Wewoka, Oklahoma, Mary Lou was a beacon of love and warmth throughout her 90 remarkable years.
The cherished daughter of "Shorty" GB Davis and Grace Mae Hawkins, Mary Lou grew up with her siblings Marg, Rayo, Shelly, Tink, and Joe, who have all predeceased her. She was also preceded in death by her beloved children, Linda, Terrie, and Dale. Her legacy of love continues through her surviving sons, Danny and Richard, her 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and numerous great-great-grandchildren, all of whom were blessed by her nurturing spirit.
Mary Lou's journey through life was marked by two profound partnerships. She was married to Daniel C. Ivy for 33 years, and Kenneth Dale Howard for 34 years. In each union, she found companionship and shared joy, creating a tapestry of memories cherished by her family.
Granny, as she was affectionately known, was a woman of great strength and resilience. She dedicated many years working as a waitress, and later, she served as a supervisor in the basil room at the local cannery for over 35 years. Her work ethic was unmatched, and her leadership inspired many.
A devout member of Calvary Temple and the Filling Station, Mary Lou's faith was the cornerstone of her life. She embodied the principles of kindness and service, always ready to extend a helping hand, whether it was through her church or in her community. Her heart was as vast as her collection of tea sets and Victorian treasures, and her love for Coca-Cola, watermelon, and shopping brought her simple pleasures.
Granny had an amazing, sweet heart and the biggest smile that could light up any room. She was the matriarch who brought everyone together, often over a grilled cheese sandwich and a glass of Ovaltine. Her devotion to family, God, and country was unwavering, and she instilled these values in every life she touched.
A celebration of Mary Lou's extraordinary life will be held on May 19, 2026, at 12:00 PM, at the Community Family Worship Center, located at 1442 Tully Road, Modesto, CA 95350. All who knew her are invited to join in honoring her legacy of love and light.
In the words of her family, "Goodbyes are not forever, goodbyes are not The End, they simply mean I'll miss you until we meet again." Let us carry forward her spirit by embracing one another with the same warmth and generosity she shared with all of us.
Mary Lou Howard's memory will forever be a guiding light, a testament to a life filled with grace, love, and unwavering faith. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
