It is with heavy hearts yet profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of our cherished Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grand Mother who departed this world peacefully at home on April 1, 2026, surrounded by the family she so deeply loved. Born on January 16, 1923, in the small town of Waterproof, Louisiana, her 103 years were a testament to a life of dedication, love, and service. Daughter to the late Hayes and Rosalee Clark, Grandmother was the embodiment of grace and resilience. She was predeceased by her siblings, Curtis Clark, Hayes Clark Jr., and Ante Clark Bass, with whom she shared a childhood filled with laughter and learning. Mildred's journey of love began when she married the love of her life, Spellman François, on June 15, 1947, in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Together, they were a beacon of unity and strength, raising six remarkable children: Richard Johnson (Gerri), Kathy François, Wanda Shay François Houston (David), and Linda François Spellman François Jr ( Brenda) and Michael François. Her unwavering love extended to her surviving brother, William Clark, and her legacy of warmth and kindness lives on in her 17 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren. A proud graduate of Waterproof High School in 1941, Mildred pursued higher education with vigor, earning a Master’s Degree from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in 1947. Her passion for learning inspired her 56-year career in education, where she became a revered mentor to many, guiding and nurturing young minds with wisdom and compassion. Mildred's community involvement was as vibrant as her personality. An active member of New Hope Missionay Baptist Church for over three decades, she lent her voice and spirit to her faith community. Her leadership extended to the Rotary Club, where she served as president in 1990, leaving an indelible mark of service and dedication. Known for her quick wit and infectious smile, Grandmother had an unparalleled ability to lift spirits and make everyone feel welcome. Her jokes and humor were legendary, capable of lighting up the darkest of rooms. Her kindness and generosity were boundless, touching countless lives and leaving an enduring impact on those fortunate enough to have known her. A celebration of Grandmother's life will be held on April 11, 2026, at 11:00 AM at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, located at 2160 Houston St, Alexandria, LA 71301. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Rapides General Hospital for their compassionate care during her final days. As we bid farewell, we hold onto her memory, forever in our hearts, as a guiding light and an eternal source of inspiration.
