February 21, 1939 — February 23, 2026

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Deacon Harvey L. Flemmings, Sr., a devoted husband, loving father, loyal brother, cherished grandfather, uncle, and friend, who peacefully transitioned from this life on Sunday, February 22, 2026, surrounded by family. Harvey’s departure leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew and loved him, yet his legacy of love, service, and faith will continue to guide us. Born on February 21, 1939, in Wetumpka, Alabama, Harvey was a beacon of light and strength from an early age. He was raised in a household filled with warmth and love, values that he carried with him throughout his life. After completing his education at the esteemed Tuskegee Institute, Harvey answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Army. His service took him to duty stations in Korea and Germany, where he exemplified dedication and honor. While stationed at Fort Lee in Petersburg, Virginia, Harvey’s life was forever changed when he met Helen, the love of his life. Their courtship, rooted in mutual respect and admiration, blossomed into a lifelong partnership when they united in holy matrimony on July 19, 1965. Together, they built a family grounded in love, faith, and unwavering support. Harvey’s love for Helen was evident in everything he did; he was her protector, confidant, and most devoted partner. Harvey was a pillar of strength and guidance to his children: William Miles of Richmond, Arnette Moss (Earl) of Petersburg, Robin J. Hood of Hopewell, Regina Roberts (Johnell, Sr.) of Hope Mill, NC, Olivia Hood and Kenneth Hood (Nicole) of Petersburg, Harvey Flemmings, Jr. (Mona) of Jacksonville, FL, and Dr. Kim Evans (David Sr.) of Chester. He took immense pride in their accomplishments and was a constant source of wisdom and encouragement. His legacy extends through his grandchildren: Latasha Hood, Demetria Royster, Johnell Roberts, Jr. (NaTarsha), Lavelle Hood, LaTez Jones (Tarika), Arnetta Moss, Michael Sinclair-Hood, Tremaine Roberts, Devon Hood, Keanna Hood, Dequan Hood, Kenneth Barnes, Sr., Candace Wear, Tierra Garcia, Paris Flemmings, Jasmine Flemmings, Cleon Flowers (Amy), and David Evans, Jr., as well as a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren who will carry forward his spirit of kindness and compassion. Harvey is survived by his devoted siblings: Debra Bracy of Wetumpka, AL; Sophia Bracy Harris of Montgomery, AL; Edwin Bracy (Gloria) of Wetumpka, AL; Georgia Robinson (David) of Wetumpka, AL; John Bracy (Juanita) of Wetumpka, AL; Charles Bracy of Atlanta, GA; Katherine Moore (Lorenza) of Montgomery, AL; and Aretha Bracy of Montgomery, AL, along with a brother-in-law, Danny Miles (Marie) of Charlotte, NC. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who deeply loved him and will carry his spirit in their hearts. A devout servant of God, Harvey was a strong pillar in the Blandford Community, modeling integrity, humility, and purpose every day. He served as a father-figure not only to his own children but also to his nieces, nephews, and many of the friends of his children and grandchildren. His legacy of love and generosity will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him. A celebration of Harvey’s life will be held on February 28, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Good Shepherd Baptist Church, located at 2223 S. Crater Road, Petersburg, VA. As we gather to honor his remarkable life, we celebrate a man whose spirit and love will forever remain a guiding light in our lives. Harvey L.
