It is with heavy hearts and profound respect that we announce the peaceful passing of Grandfather West, a cherished soul who graced this world on February 12, 1930, in the vibrant city of Dallas. He departed from us on May 6, 2026, at the ripe age of 96, surrounded by the love and adoration of his family. His life was a tapestry of love, dedication, and wisdom, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege to know him. Grandfather was the beloved son of John and Shirley West, who instilled in him the values of kindness, hard work, and integrity. He was predeceased by his dear parents, as well as his sister Betty West and brother David West, who all surely welcomed him with open arms into the eternal embrace of the afterlife. In 1949, Grandfather embarked on a nearly 70-year journey of love and companionship with his devoted wife, Shirley Goss. Their marriage was a testament to enduring love and partnership, a beacon of commitment that inspired all who witnessed their union. Grandfather is survived by his loving daughter, Beverly West, who was the apple of his eye and a testament to his nurturing spirit. His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren, Derrick and Deldrick Polk, and his two granddaughters, who were a constant source of pride and joy for him. He leaves behind a family bound by love and strengthened by his unwavering guidance. A man of humble beginnings, Grandfather's life was a testament to resilience and grace. His wisdom was a guiding light, his kindness a balm for the weary, and his laughter a melody that warmed the hearts of those around him. His legacy is one of love, family, and a life well-lived. We invite all who knew and loved Grandfather to join us in celebrating his remarkable life on May 16, 2026, at 11:00 PM at Mt. Tabor Missionary Baptist Church, located at 3700 Simpson Stuart Rd. The service will be a time to reflect, honor, and share the many stories and memories that Grandfather has left with us all. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Grandfather's memory to a charity of your choice, as an embodiment of his generous spirit. As we bid farewell to this extraordinary man, let us carry forward his legacy of love, compassion, and unwavering strength. Though he is no longer with us in body, his spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those he touched. Rest in peace, beloved Grandfather. Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure. You are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure.
