It is with heavy hearts yet profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of a beloved patriarch, known fondly as Grandfather. Born on July 11, 1940, in the vibrant city of Chicago, IL, he departed this world peacefully on May 3, 2026, after bravely battling an illness. His journey through life was one marked by love, resilience, and unwavering dedication to his family. Grandfather was the cherished son of Henry and Rosemary Sears, who instilled in him values of kindness, hard work, and integrity. He was preceded in death by his loving parents and his five daughters, Jackie, Geraldine, Lorain, Monica, and Lisa, whose memories he carried tenderly in his heart. A graduate of Dunbar Academy, Grandfather pursued further education at Truman College, illustrating his lifelong commitment to learning and self-improvement. He began his professional journey as a head chef, where his culinary talents brought joy and nourishment to many. Later, seeking a new challenge, he transitioned into the field of pest control, becoming a revered exterminator until his well-deserved retirement. Grandfather's life was a testament to the power of love and family. He shared over 60 years of marriage with the love of his life, Shirley A. Lewis, who preceded him in death in 1990. Their enduring love story remains an inspiration to all who knew them. Though life presented him with challenges, Grandfather found solace and immense joy in the presence of his beloved family. He is survived by his devoted daughter Charmaine, who brought him much pride and happiness. His two brothers, Randy and James, and his sister Beverly, alongside a host of nieces and nephews, shared in his life's journey, providing love and support. Grandfather's legacy is carried forward by his 22 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, each of whom was a source of immense pride and joy. His favorite pastime was spending time with them, sharing stories, laughter, and creating cherished memories that will endure for generations. A service to honor Grandfather's extraordinary life will be held on May 11, 2026, at 2:00 PM. Friends and family are invited to gather at the Talor-Westgate Funeral Home, located at 616 Washington St, Waukegan, IL 60085, to celebrate his life and bid farewell to a remarkable man. As we say goodbye, we hold dear the words of his family: "To our Grandfather, we will always love you. You were the best, and now we know you're happy and at peace 🕊️." Grandfather's presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit and the love he shared will remain with us forever. May he rest in eternal peace, reunited with his beloved Shirley and their dear daughters.
