Rutherford Eason

August 12, 1941 — April 8, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and profound loss that we announce the passing of Rutherford Eason, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. Born on August 12, 1941, in Birmingham, Alabama, Rutherford departed this world peacefully at home on April 8, 2026, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family after a long, courageous battle with illness. Rutherford was the cherished son of Rutherford and Joan Eason, and he carried forward their legacy of kindness and resilience throughout his life. Predeceased by his father Rutherford Eason and his son Michael Eason, he is now reunited with them in eternal peace. Rutherford leaves behind his devoted wife of 51 years, Joan Eason, whom he married in a loving ceremony on January 22, 1975, in Chicago, Illinois. Their marriage was a testament to enduring love and partnership, blessed with three children—Donald (Roselind) and Debra (Ernest)—who were raised with the strong values and principles that Rutherford held dear. He was also the proud grandfather to six grandchildren Fatina(Rickey), Chris, Dameon, Roderick(Elizabeth), Michael and Donald(Dominique) and great-grandfather to nine great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immeasurable joy to his life. His extended family, including a host of nieces, nephews, and dear friends, will dearly miss him. Rutherford graduated from Franklin High School in Birmingham, Alabama, in 1958, where he first displayed the quick wit and infectious smile that would come to define his character. His career as a dedicated worker at Burr Oak Cemetery in Chicago spanned 36 years, starting in 1963 and concluding with his retirement in April 1999. His colleagues remember him as a reliable and hardworking man who treated everyone with respect and kindness. When not at work, Rutherford found joy and relaxation in his hobbies. An avid fisherman, he cherished quiet mornings on the water, casting a line and finding solace in nature. His love for sports was well known, and he could often be found enthusiastically cheering on his favorite teams from the comfort of his couch, bringing his family together for countless evenings filled with laughter and camaraderie. Rutherford’s personality was as vibrant as it was welcoming. His quick wit and big smile could light up any room, leaving an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to know him. His presence brought warmth and comfort, and his legacy of love and laughter will continue to inspire all who knew him. A service to celebrate Rutherford Eason’s remarkable life will be held on April 24, 2026, at 1:00 PM at the Cornerstone Christian Fellowship, located at 4101 Floosmoor Rd, Country Club Hills, Illinois 60478. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of a life well-lived, sharing stories and memories that honor his enduring spirit. As we say goodbye to Rutherford, we hold close the memories and love he so generously shared with us. In his honor, we carry forward his legacy of kindness, strength, and unwavering love. He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten. In the words of his family: "Today we honor a life that brought love, laughter, and meaning to those fortunate enough to know him. His kindness touched hearts, his strength inspired others, and his presence made the world brighter. Though he is no longer with us in body, his spirit lives on in the memories he created and the lives he changed. He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten."
