December 2, 1946 — July 6, 2026

Gracie Louise Newsom, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, peacefully departed this life on July 6, 2026, at the age of 79. Born on December 2, 1946, in Birmingham, Alabama, Louise was the cherished daughter of Cleve and Catherine Watkins. Her life was a testament to love, resilience, and faith, and she will be dearly missed by all who were privileged to know her. Louise was united in marriage to Robert Steve Newsom on July 30, 1968, a union that lasted 36 joyful years until Robert's passing. Together, they crafted a life rich in love and laughter, nurturing a family that would continue to grow and thrive, bound by the values they instilled. Louise often spoke of her longing to be reunited with Robert, a dream that has now been fulfilled. A devoted mother, Louise is survived by her children: Gary and his wife, Mona Newsom; Steve Newsom; Henry and his wife, Nicole Newsom; and Teresa and her husband, James Reeves. Her legacy is further carried on by her adoring grandchildren: Tiffanie and her husband, Steven Perez; Presleigh Newsom; Trey Reeves; and Emilie Newsom. Louise is also survived by her brother, Cleve Watkins, who shared in the joys and challenges of life alongside her. Louise was predeceased by her beloved husband, Robert; her son, Terry Beasley; and her brothers, Ralph, Terry, and Jimmy Watkins. Their memories remained close to her heart throughout her life, guiding her through moments of joy and sorrow. Her professional journey led her to the La Porte School District, where she found immense fulfillment in her later years. Louise possessed an innate ability to brighten the lives of children, spreading joy and warmth throughout the community. Her gentle spirit and kindheartedness left an indelible mark on those she encountered. In honor of Louise's life and spirit, the family has chosen to hold a private ceremony. They find comfort in the words from 2 Timothy 4:7: "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." These words encapsulate the strength and grace with which Louise lived her life. The family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Louise's memory to a charitable organization of your choice, reflecting her lifelong commitment to giving and service. Gracie Louise Newsom's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with love, faith, and unwavering dedication to her family and community. Her memory will forever be a blessing, and her spirit will continue to inspire those who knew and loved her.
