Grace H Nicholson

May 18, 1940 — July 18, 2026

Grace H. Nicholson, a beacon of strength, love, and wisdom, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2026, at the age of 86. Born on May 18, 1940, in Johnston, South Carolina, Grace was the beloved daughter of the late Earl and Helen Nicholson. Her life was a testament to resilience, kindness, and an unwavering commitment to family and community. Grace’s journey took her to Philadelphia, where she was educated in the Philadelphia School system. Her career was as varied as it was dedicated; she worked as a butcher at a local supermarket and later at the Internal Revenue Service, where she was known for her diligence and integrity. A towering figure not just in stature but in spirit, Grace stood six feet tall and possessed a heart of pure gold. Her presence in any room was electrifying—she had a way of lighting up the lives of those around her, offering warmth and sometimes a stern word if needed. Her family fondly remembers that "Grandmom did not play," yet, her generosity knew no bounds; she would give the shirt off her back to anyone who earned it. Grace was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her children: Sheryl Motley, Terrisena, Denise, Annette, and Sherri ; her sons William, Mark , Kevin, and Joey two son in law's Tony and Sellus. Her legacy continues through her 13 grandchildren: Tyrone Motley, Valencia Motley, Cynthia, Shaheed, Kevin, Kira, Carla, Marnita , Byshon, Christian, and Zaida. She was also blessed with two great-grandchildren, Saniyah and Ariyah. Grace was preceded in death by her cherished son, Michael Nicholson, her parents, Earl and Helen Nicholson, her long-time companion William Speaks, and her dear sisters, Mary Taylor, Hattie Wise, and Marion Nicholson. Her lifetime partner, Mr. Charles Marriweather, shared many years of love and companionship with her. Cooking for her large family was one of Grace’s greatest joys. Her meals were not just about food but about gathering loved ones, sharing stories, and creating memories that would last a lifetime. A celebration of Grace's life will be held on July 30, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Majestic Hall, Room A, located at 800 W Olney Ave. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to a charity of your choice, honoring Grace’s spirit of giving. The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to all friends, family, and co-workers for their support and kindness during this time. Your love and compassion have been a source of strength, and for that, you have our sincere gratitude.
