Grace Christian
January 30, 1941 — October 29, 2026
With heavy hearts and profound gratitude, we announce the passing of Grace Christian, a beloved matriarch, on October 29, 2026. Grace was born on January 30, 1941, in Charleston, South Carolina, to Eva Mae Simmons. She transitioned peacefully at home, leaving behind a legacy of love and resilience.
Grace was a woman of formidable strength and grace. She graduated from Burke High School in 1959, embarking on a career that saw her serve with distinction. Initially working at the US Post Office, Grace's career path led her to the New York State Department of Corrections. Her dedication and hard work propelled her through the ranks, culminating in her retirement in 1996 as the respected Captain of Sing Sing Correctional Facility in Ossining, New York.
Her personal life was marked by a deep and abiding love. On February 26, 1966, Grace married the love of her life, Felix Christian, with whom she shared 56 beautiful years until his passing. Together, they nurtured a loving family, raising four devoted children: Michael Mack (Michelle), Jamie Christian, Lisa Williams (Joseph), and Shaniqua Christian (Arsun). Her legacy continues through her cherished twelve grandchildren and one great-grandchild, all of whom carry forward her spirit and values.
Grace's life was enriched by her faith and community. She was raised in Vanderhorst Memorial CME Church in Charleston, SC, and later became an active member of Solid Rock Christian Fellowship Church in North Charleston, SC. Her dedication and service to the church were honored with the title of Mother Emeritus. Her faith was her compass, guiding her through life with compassion and wisdom.
A woman of diverse interests, Grace was an avid reader and had a particular fondness for elephants, creatures whose strength and gentleness mirrored her own spirit. Known for her giving heart, she opened her home and heart to many, often around her famous Sunday dinners, where laughter and love were served in abundance. Her sharp tongue, always delivered with love, was both a source of wisdom and humor to those fortunate enough to know her.
Grace is predeceased by her beloved husband, Felix Christian, and is survived by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild, all of whom she loved dearly and who will continue to honor her memory in their lives.
A service celebrating Grace's life will be held on November 12, 2026, at 9:00 AM at Murry Mortuary North Charleston Chapel, located at 4060 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29405. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice, in honor of Grace's generous spirit.
