Grace Assenzio, born on September 9, 1934, in the vibrant heart of New York City, peacefully departed this world on September 17, 2026, surrounded by the love of her cherished family. She was a beacon of warmth, kindness, and grace, whose life was a testament to the power of love, resilience, and unwavering dedication to those she held dear. Grace was the beloved daughter of Joseph and Angelina DeMaio, who instilled in her the values of hard work and compassion. These virtues guided her throughout her life, from her early days growing up in New York City to her remarkable career in hotel management. A graduate of Columbus High School in the Bronx, Grace's intelligence and determination allowed her to excel in her field. As Executive Housekeeper, she managed the largest department at The Helmsley Palace, later bringing her exceptional skills to the Kimberly Hotel. Colleagues and staff respected and adored her, and many stayed in touch long after her retirement at the age of 68. Though Grace did not serve in the military, her heart was with those who did. She was a steadfast supporter of military veterans, contributing regularly to organizations dedicated to their welfare. Her generosity and commitment to others extended beyond professional and philanthropic efforts; it was a defining feature of her personal life as well. An extraordinary cook, Grace shared her Italian heritage through her culinary creations, always eager to exchange recipes and culinary tips with fellow enthusiasts. Known to her friends as Gracie, she had an insatiable curiosity for current events and a passion for reading, which kept her mind sharp and engaged until her final days. Grace was a confidant and friend to many, known for her patience, non-judgmental nature, and welcoming spirit. Her impeccable sense of style complemented her vibrant personality, and her quick wit and sense of humor brought joy to all who knew her. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and sister, and is survived by her children LeaAnne, Joseph, Anthony; and her daughter-In law Chia. Her sister and brother-in-law Theresa and Tommy Sirico, her grandchildren Jennifer, Tara, Stephanie, Shanna, Michelle, and Demetrious; and her great-grandchildren; Tyler, Zachary, Colton and Logan. A service to celebrate Grace's life will be held on September 27, 2026, at 5:00 PM at the Flynn Memorial Home, located at 1652 Central Park Ave, Yonkers, NY 10710. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations in Grace's memory be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, a cause close to her heart.
