It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Godfrey H. Talton on April 9, 2026. Born on May 21, 1953, in Camden, New Jersey, Godfrey was a beacon of love and strength to all who knew him. He was the beloved son of Ms. Helen Marie (Freeman) Talton and the late Raymond V. Talton.
A man of great character and kindness, Godfrey, affectionately known as Harry, dedicated his life to his family, his country, and his passions. He served honorably in the US Army, a testament to his selfless nature and commitment to protecting and serving others. Following his military service, Godfrey worked diligently at Texaco Shell, where he was a respected colleague until his retirement in 2007.
Harry's greatest joy in life was his family. He shared a beautiful marriage with his cherished wife, Clarissa J. Murray. Together, they nurtured a loving family, including Carlette, Nicholas (Kimberly), and James (Asia). His legacy continues through his surviving brothers Raymond, Steven, Malcolm, and John, and his adored grandchildren Tye'Anna, Zyion, Kenley, CJ, Kyla Rose, King, and Kerra, as well as great-grandchildren Justus and Shiloh. Though predeceased by his father Raymond, brother Stanley D. Freeman Sr., sister Sheila E. Talton, and great-grandchildren Blessing and Aubrey, his spirit lives on in the hearts of all those who loved him.
Harry's love for cooking and grilling was surpassed only by his love for family gatherings, where he effortlessly created an atmosphere of warmth and laughter. He was a proud father, loving grandfather, and great-grandfather, always putting the needs of others before his own. His caring heart, unwavering love, and gentle spirit were the cornerstones of his life, offering guidance, strength, and unconditional love to everyone he encountered. His presence brought comfort, laughter, and a sense of togetherness that will be deeply missed by all.
A service to honor Godfrey's life will be held on April 18, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Dickerson Mortuary LLC, 4700 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, 29405. The Talton family extends their heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of love and support received during this time of bereavement.
