Gloria Rosalie Nicholas

November 7, 1939 — May 10, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of our beloved Gloria Rosalie Nicholas, who departed this world on May 10, 2026, at the age of 86. Born on November 7, 1939, in Middletown, Connecticut, Gloria was the treasured daughter of Rosalie Pianka and Jesse Spencer, who predeceased her. Gloria's journey began in Middletown, where she graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School, a place that laid the foundation for her lifelong love of learning and her insatiable curiosity about the world around her. It was here that she met her soulmate, Thomas Nicholas, in a serendipitous encounter at a local bakery. Gloria was just 17 when Tom, after one chance encounter, knew she was the one he wanted to spend his life with. Just two years later, they married, beginning a beautiful partnership that would span 63 years. Together, Gloria and Tom made their home in the picturesque town of Rockport, Massachusetts, where they raised their son, TM Nicholas. A devoted wife and mother, Gloria was the heart of her family, always nurturing and supporting those she loved. Her passion for art and dedication to her family's creative endeavors shone brightly through her stewardship of the Tom Nicholas Gallery, which she managed with grace and enthusiasm. It was here that Gloria's warmth and charm captivated countless visitors, many of whom became lifelong friends. Gloria's love for her family was unparalleled. She leaves behind her husband, Thomas Nicholas; her son, TM Nicholas, and daughter-in-law, Laurel Nicholas; her cherished grandchildren, Jacqueline Barrows (and husband Jeff), Victoria Skinsacos (and husband Dimitri), Alexandria Curr (and husband Derek), and Catherine Nicholas; and her adored great-grandchildren, Trent Barrows, Scarlett Skinsacos, and Roman Skinsacos. She also leaves behind her sister-in-law, Kathy Talevi, and her beloved nieces, Jodylynn Talevi and Nancy DeHaan. An avid gardener, Gloria found joy in the simple beauty of nature, spending countless hours ensuring her gardens were always in bloom. Her home, like her gallery, was a testament to her impeccable taste and love for art, with her cherished angel collection gracing her space each Christmas season. Gloria was known for her quick wit and honesty, qualities that endeared her to all who had the fortune of knowing her. Her love for the finer things extended to a deep appreciation for dining, yet she would always claim that Tom's cooking was her favorite. When she wasn't tending to her gardens or gallery, she could be found enjoying a glass of wine on the patio with Tom, surrounded by her flowers—a simple pleasure that brought her immense happiness. Gloria's family extends their heartfelt thanks to the team at Addison Gilbert Hospital for their compassionate care during her last weeks, and to everyone who visited and sent thoughts of love and support. In her memory, they request donations to be made to Horizon Gardens (https://horizongardens.net/), a fitting tribute to her love of nature and beauty. A service celebrating Gloria's life will be held on July 19, 2026, at 4:00 PM at The Rockport Art Association, located at 12 Main St, Rockport, MA 01966. As we gather to honor her remarkable life, we remember a woman whose love and spirit will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
