Gloria Lucille Tyus Petty, a beloved matriarch and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2026, at the age of 93. Born on June 24, 1933, in Mobile, Alabama, Gloria was the daughter of Marion and Irma Gregory. Her life was a testament to faith, family, and community, leaving an indelible mark on all who knew her. Gloria’s early years were spent in Mobile, where she attended Pure Heart of Mary Catholic School and graduated from Central High School. Her education was not only academic but also spiritual, instilling in her a profound sense of compassion and devotion that would guide her throughout her life. A lifetime member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Gloria was deeply involved in her faith community, contributing her time and talents to various church activities and fostering a spirit of unity and love among parishioners. In her personal life, Gloria was the devoted wife of the late Robert C. Petty Sr., with whom she shared many happy years. Together, they built a family that became the cornerstone of Gloria’s world. She was the proud and loving mother of Phyllis McArthur, Minda C. Petty, Robert C. Petty Jr., Cynthia D. Petty, Sharon L. Kuttner (Michael), Kenneth F. Petty (Angela), and Wendell E. Petty. Her family was her greatest achievement, and she was a constant source of encouragement and wisdom to her children. Gloria was also blessed with 14 grandchildren; Justin McArthur, Robert McArthur, Julian Petty, Ryan Petty, As'a Taylor, Cayatana Taylor, Jenniffer Kuttner, Antonio Sanchez, Quentin Petty, Zachary Petty, Zoe Petty, India Petty, Paris Petty and Donavon Petty and 25 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her immense joy. She cherished every moment with them, from celebrating milestones to sharing stories of their heritage, ensuring that her legacy of love and resilience would continue through the generations. Preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert; her parents and her siblings, Gwedolyn Walker, Rosemary Hendrix, and Marion Gregory, Gloria is now reunited with them in eternal peace. Her family invites all who knew and loved her to join in a celebration of Gloria’s life on [date of service], at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, located at 1701 Dublin Street, Mobile, AL. This service will be a time to honor her memory, her faith, and the love she shared with so many.
