Gloria June (Ten Brink) Potter

On September 8, 2026, Gloria June (Ten Brink) Potter, a beloved wife, cherished mother, and devoted grandmother, passed away after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's. Born on June 17, 1937, in Grandville, Michigan, Gloria was the daughter of Herman and Aleta (Terpstra) Ten Brink. Her life was a testament to the power of love, faith, and generosity. Gloria's early years were spent in Grand Rapids, where she graduated from Wyoming High School in 1955. It was here that her passion for photography emerged, leading her to work as a photographer's assistant before marrying the love of her life, Dr. Merle C. Potter. They wed on September 6, 1957, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, embarking on a beautiful journey that would span 69 years, a milestone they celebrated just two days before she went to be with the Lord. Together, Gloria and Merle raised four children: Jeff, Martha, Tim (Hiromi), Michelle (Dan) Marks, and Kelvin (Rachel). Gloria's nurturing spirit extended to her ten grandchildren—Alex (Cassy), Heidi (Vince) Twu, Wendy (Andrew) Bennetts, Sheldon Gruender, Valerie Gruender, Tristan Gruender, Henry, Lucy, Ben, and Eli—and nine great-grandchildren, Isaiah, Johana, Mia, Misa, Nobu, Seina, Isaac, Levi and Hunter. Her legacy of love and care echoes profoundly through each of their lives. Throughout her life, Gloria was a beacon of warmth and wisdom. Her remarkable talent as a seamstress and artist was evident in the multitude of beautiful creations she generously made for family and friends. Gloria's love for professional photography was a lifelong passion, eventually capturing the joy of weddings and blessing many brides with her gentle, confident presence. Gloria's generosity extended beyond her family, as she and Merle opened their hearts and shared their home with foster children and many adults, including family members in times of need. A dedicated member of her church community, Gloria was involved in teaching children's Sunday School and summer Bible Clubs for many years. Her faith was her guiding light, shaping her into a woman who embodied the virtues of kindness and compassion. Her church families were an integral part of her life, providing a network of cherished friendships that endured through the years. Gloria's passing leaves a profound void in the lives of those who were privileged to know her. Her life was a tapestry of love, faith, and unwavering generosity. Her legacy will continue to inspire and guide the hearts of those who loved her. The family kindly requests that Memorial gifts be made in Gloria's memory to the City Rescue Mission of Lansing, an organization that mirrors her lifelong commitment to helping others. Visitation with the family and a memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2026 at River Terrace Church, 1509 River Terrace, East Lansing, MI 48823, starting at 11 am with the service beginning at approximately noontime. Refreshments will follow in the church gymnasium.
