Gloria Jean Gilmore

May 4, 1947 — February 8, 2026

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Gloria Jean Gilmore, who departed this world on February 8, 2026, at the age of 78. Peacefully at home, surrounded by loved ones, she left us after a short illness, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and resilience. Born on May 4, 1947, in the vibrant city of Chicago, Illinois, Gloria was the cherished daughter of the late Irving and Rosie Varnado. She carried the warmth and strength of her upbringing into every aspect of her life, becoming a beacon of light and love for all who knew her. Gloria was predeceased by her beloved husband, Jackie Gilmore, with whom she shared many years of love and companionship. Her brothers Irving Jr., Phillip, and Michael, as well as her sister Linda, also preceded her in death. Despite these great losses, Gloria's spirit remained unbroken, reflecting the enduring strength she inherited from her parents. A devoted and nurturing mother, Gloria's greatest joy came from her children: Jacqueline, Michael, and Derick, who will forever carry her memory in their hearts. Her love and wisdom have been a guiding force in their lives, and her legacy continues through them. Gloria also leaves behind her dear sister, Patricia Taylor, who shared in her laughter and tears, providing a steadfast support that only sisters can give. Gloria's family blossomed through her nine grandchildren, who were the apples of her eye. She delighted in their successes and offered a warm embrace in times of need, teaching them the values of compassion and perseverance. Her love extended even further to her great-great-grandchildren, who brought her immense joy and pride. Throughout her life, Gloria touched the lives of countless friends, each of whom can attest to her generous spirit and unwavering kindness. Her home was always a place of warmth and hospitality, where laughter echoed through the halls and memories were made. Gloria's passing leaves a void that can never be filled, yet her legacy lives on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. Her grace, humor, and boundless love will continue to inspire those she left behind. A celebration of Gloria's life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to honor her memory and share in the stories of her remarkable life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Gloria's name, as a tribute to her lifelong commitment to helping others. As we say goodbye to Gloria, let us remember her not with tears, but with gratitude for the time we shared and the love she so freely gave. Though she is no longer with us in body, her spirit will forever remain a guiding light in our lives.
