With a heart full of love and a spirit that endeared her to all she met, Gloria Jean Carter peacefully left this world on June 18, 2026, at the age of 80, embraced by the warmth of her beloved home in Tallulah, Louisiana. Born on May 11, 1946, in Tallulah, Gloria was a beacon of light and kindness throughout her life, touching the hearts of family, friends, and strangers alike.
Gloria was the cherished daughter of Monie Wells-McWilliams and Thomas Wells Sr., both of whom preceded her in death. She is also reunited in eternal peace with her beloved daughter, Gloria Ann Parker, her life partner of over 20 years, Lavelle “Bill” Davis, her brothers Thomas, Freddie, and Curtis Wells, and her sisters Lizzie Mae Guice and Katie Mae Weaver.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and a family that adored her. Her sons, Michael, Frederick, Melvin, Gregory (Trina), and Edward, will forever cherish her memory. Her siblings, Mary Hicks-Rabb, Izella Wells-Newman, Carolyn “Bay” Wells, Dorthy Potter, and John Quincy Wells, continue to celebrate the bond they shared with their sister. Her heart was full of pride and affection for her grandchildren, ShaFonda Kline, Alpheus Lewis, Michael Parker Jr., Micheala Parker, Tumeaka Fay (Marcus), Toni Parker-Blyden (Prince), Jorell Parker, Frederick Parker Jr., Junae Doddy, Courtney Fisher, Katorie Travis, Mejatue Parker, Zaria Parker, Shakyla Parker, Grenisha Parker, and Sharon Barnett, as well as her many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Gloria's dear best friend, Henrietta “Fruitce” Williams, was a cherished companion throughout her life.
Gloria was a woman of deep faith, having accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at a young age. Her life was a testament to God’s grace, and she found immense joy in sharing Jesus's love with others. Her career as a dedicated Certified Nursing Assistant was more than a job; it was a calling. Known for her compassion, she brought dignity and a warm smile to her patients, treating each one as family. Her kindness and generosity were evident in all aspects of her life.
Beyond her professional life, Gloria expressed her love through cooking, famously creating the best gumbo and dressing in Louisiana. Feeding people was her non-negotiable expression of love, and her culinary skills were widely celebrated. Gloria also enjoyed shopping, engaging in long, heartfelt conversations on the phone, and keeping her home spotless, all while enjoying the uplifting melodies of her favorite gospel music. She never met a stranger, and her ability to make everyone feel welcomed and valued was a hallmark of her beautiful character.
A service celebrating Gloria's life will be held on July 3, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Tallulah Community Center, located at 800 N Beech St, Tallulah, LA 71282. The family extends its deepest gratitude to nurse Len Machen with Heart of Hospice, Beckwith Funeral Home, Terry Rogers (LD’s Restaurant), Melinda Diggs, and all those who have offered support, prayers, and kindness during this difficult time. Your presence, whether in person or in spirit, has been a great source of comfort to our family.
