Gloria J. Marker
November 24, 1950 — July 3, 2026
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gloria J. (Marker) Fortney a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, who left us on July 3, 2026, following a sudden illness. Gloria was born on November 24, 1950, and spent her life dedicated to family, community, and the pursuit of knowledge.
Gloria was predeceased by her cherished parents and her beloved husband, Dallas LeRoy Fortney, with whom she shared a remarkable journey since their marriage in 1969 at the First Presbyterian Church. Together, they built a loving and supportive family, including their son, Brent Dallas Fortney, who sadly predeceased them. Gloria is survived by her treasured grandsons, Roger Dallas Fortney and Brent Patrick Fortney, who were the light of her life.
A woman of great curiosity and passion, Gloria spent her years exploring the intricacies of genealogy, traveling across the United States to trace the histories of her own family and that of her husband. Her dedication to uncovering the past was a testament to her love for family and heritage.
Gloria was not only a historian of her family's legacy but also a nurturing community leader. For over 15 years, she hosted an Indian Beading Club in her home, where she welcomed both new and seasoned beaders. Gloria generously provided supplies and created an environment that encouraged the embrace of ancient traditions while experimenting with newer methodologies of Native beadwork. Her ability to foster a sense of belonging and creativity made her a consummate host and a cherished friend to many.
Beyond her personal interests, Gloria was a proud and active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), where she continued her lifelong commitment to service and community.
Gloria's warmth, generosity, and unwavering kindness touched the lives of everyone she met. Her legacy of love and passion for culture and history will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Gloria's memory. Her spirit will live on through the stories we share and the love we give.
May her memory be a blessing to all who knew her.
