In Loving Memory

Gloria “Dorothy” Jean Nunnery
March 25, 1950 — May 14, 2026
With profound sadness and heartfelt reverence, we announce the passing of Gloria “Dorothy” Jean Nunnery, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to all who had the privilege of knowing her. Dorothy peacefully departed this world on May 14, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family at her cherished home in Wewahitchka, Florida. Born on March 25, 1950, in Welch, West Virginia, Dorothy was a beacon of warmth and love, her life a testament to the grace and faith that guided her every step.
Dorothy was the cherished daughter of the late James Terry and Elouise Toole Terry. She was predeceased by her parents, along with her siblings Jack Terry, Jimmy Terry, Linda Knowles, Joann Terry, Cathy Gainous, and Rebecca “Becky” Nugent. She is also reunited in eternal rest with her stepson, Jeremy Jay Nunnery.
A devoted wife to Harold Nunnery, with whom she shared 23 years of marriage filled with mutual respect, love, and shared joy, Dorothy was the heart and soul of their family. Together, they nurtured a beautiful family that was the center of her world. She is survived by her four children: David Newsome (Jamie), George Newsome (Lisa), Stacey Hayes, and Katrina Nunnery (Lamar). Her legacy of love and kindness lives on through her nine grandchildren: A.J. Hayes, Cassie Hayes (Emilly), Rebekah Newsome (Matthew), Austin Guffey (Shayla), Cody Johnson, Case Johnson (Briana), Braydon Nunnery (Meagan), Trevor Nunnery (Shelby), and Auburn Nunnery. Dorothy was also blessed with thirteen great-grandchildren, Kynslee, Jasper, Maycee, Mason, Millie, Maggie, Memphis, Charlie, Chandler, Emilia, Lilly, Amos, and Porter, each of whom brought immense joy to her life.
Dorothy embraced her role as “Granny Dot” with open arms and a full heart. Her career as a dietitian was a testament to her nurturing spirit, a profession she left behind to devote herself entirely to her family. Her love for God and family was the cornerstone of her life, bringing her immense peace and comfort. She delighted in attending church services with Harold, her faith an unwavering source of strength and serenity. Dorothy’s love extended beyond her immediate family; she welcomed everyone into her home with kindness and a mothering nature that knew no bounds.
Her hobbies and interests were simple yet profound, centered around the joy of raising her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She found particular delight in spending time with her “little buddy” Jasper, cherishing the moments of laughter and love they shared.
Dorothy’s life was characterized by her kindness, love, and occasionally stubborn spirit, traits that endeared her to all who knew her. She knew no strangers, only friends, and her home was a haven of warmth and hospitality.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Emerald Coast Hospice for their compassionate care during Dorothy’s final days. Their support was invaluable, providing comfort to Dorothy and her family during this poignant time.
In honoring Dorothy’s memory, we find solace in the words of Corinthians 5:8, “To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.” Her spirit now resides in eternal peace, embraced by the love she so freely gave in life.
Dorothy’s presence will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love, faith, and kindness will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her. May she rest in eternal peace, her spirit forever in the hearts of those who loved her.
