March 25, 1950 — May 14, 2026

March 25, 1950 - May 14, 2026 With profound sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of Gloria “Dorothy” Jean Nunnery on May 14, 2026, at her cherished home in Wewahitchka, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family. Born on March 25, 1950, in the small town of Welch, West Virginia, Dorothy was a beacon of warmth, kindness, and unwavering faith throughout her 76 years of life. Dorothy was the beloved daughter of the late James Terry and Elouise Toole Terry. She was predeceased by her parents, as well as her siblings Jack Terry, Jimmy Terry, Linda Knowles, Joann Terry, Cathy Gainous, Rebecca “Becky” Nugent, and her cherished stepson, Jeremy Jay Nunnery. Her family finds solace in the thought of their reunion in heaven. Dorothy is survived by her devoted husband of 23 years, Harold Nunnery, whose love and partnership were a source of great joy and fulfillment in her life. Together, they built a family that was the center of Dorothy’s world, and she leaves behind a legacy of love and resilience in her children: David Newsome (Jamie), George Newsome (Lisa), Stacey Hayes, and Katrina Nunnery (Lamar). Her nine grandchildren - A.J. Hayes, Cassie Hayes (Emilly), Rebekah Newsome (Matthew), Austin Guffey (Shayla), Cody Johnson, Case Johnson (Briana), Braydon Nunnery (Meagan), Trevor Nunnery (Shelby), and Auburn Nunnery - cherished her deeply. Dorothy’s spirit will continue to inspire her thirteen great-grandchildren: Kynslee, Jasper, Maycee, Mason, Millie, Maggie, Memphis, Charlie, Chandler, Emilia, Lilly, Amos, and Porter, who brought her endless joy and pride. Dorothy’s career as a dietitian was marked by dedication and care until she chose to embrace the role she loved most - a full-time stay-at-home wife, mother, and “Granny Dot.” Her nurturing spirit extended to all who knew her, as she welcomed everyone into her home with open arms and a generous heart. Known for her kindness, mothering nature, and a touch of stubbornness, Dorothy knew no stranger and loved every soul she encountered. Her number one joy in life was her faith in The Lord. Dorothy found peace and comfort in her relationship with God, attending church every Sunday and listening to His word with her beloved Harold by her side. Her faith was the foundation upon which she built her life, guiding her with love and grace. Dorothy also delighted in helping raise her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, particularly enjoying her time with her little buddy, Jasper. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Emerald Coast Hospice for the compassionate care they provided to Dorothy in her final days. Their kindness and professionalism were a great support during this difficult time. As we remember Dorothy, we are comforted by the words of Corinthians 5:8: “To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.” Her presence will be deeply missed but forever cherished in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Dorothy’s memory, celebrating her spirit of generosity and love. A service to honor Dorothy’s life will be held at a later date, where family and friends will gather to celebrate the beautiful legacy she leaves behind. Rest in peace, dear Dorothy, in the eternal embrace of the Lord.
