In Loving Memory

Gloria “Dorothy” Jean Nunnery
March 25, 1950 — May 14, 2026
With profound sadness and heartfelt gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Gloria “Dorothy” Jean Nunnery on May 14, 2026, at her cherished home in Wewahitchka. Born on March 25, 1950, in the serene town of Welch, West Virginia, Dorothy’s life was a testament to love, faith, and unyielding devotion to her family and community.
Dorothy was the cherished daughter of the late James Terry and Elouise Toole Terry. She was predeceased by her parents, as well as her siblings, Jack Terry, Jimmy Terry, Linda Knowles, Joann Terry, Cathy Gainous, Rebecca “Becky” Nugent, and her step-son, Jeremy Jay Nunnery. Despite these losses, Dorothy’s heart remained full, sustained by the boundless love she shared with her surviving family.
In 2003, Dorothy found her soulmate in Harold Nunnery, with whom she shared 23 beautiful years of marriage. Together, they built a home filled with laughter, warmth, and unwavering faith. Dorothy’s legacy lives on through her four children: David Newsome (Jamie), George Newsome (Lisa), Stacey Hayes, and Katrina Nunnery (Lamar). Her heart was further enriched by her nine grandchildren: A.J. Hayes, Cassie Hayes (Emilly), Rebekah Newsome (Matthew), Austin Guffey (Shayla), Cody Johnson, Case Johnson (Briana), Braydon Nunnery (Meagan), Trevor Nunnery (Shelby), and Auburn Nunnery, as well as her thirteen great-grandchildren: Kynslee, Jasper, Maycee, Mason, Millie, Maggie, Memphis, Charlie, Chandler, Emilia, Lilly, Amos, and Porter. Dorothy also leaves behind many cherished nieces, nephews, and her brother-in-law, Joe Nugent.
Dorothy’s life was guided by faith, and her number one joy was The Lord. She found solace and strength in attending church on Sundays with Harold, embracing the word of God. Her devotion to faith was a beacon of comfort, not only to herself but to all who knew her. A former dietitian, Dorothy chose to dedicate her life to being a full-time wife, mother, and granny—affectionately known as “Dot.” Her nurturing spirit and generous heart were evident in the love she poured into raising her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, especially her little buddy, Jasper.
Dorothy was known for her kindness, love, and mothering nature, and perhaps even her occasional stubbornness. She welcomed every person who walked into her home with open arms and a warm heart, knowing no stranger. Her legacy is woven into the lives she touched with her boundless generosity and compassion.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to Emerald Coast Hospice for their compassionate care and support during Dorothy’s final days. In the words of Corinthians 5:8, “To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.” Dorothy’s spirit now rests in eternal peace, her presence forever cherished in the hearts of those who loved her.
As we celebrate Dorothy’s life, we hold her memory close, cherishing the love she gave and the lessons she imparted. Her spirit will continue to guide us, her love an everlasting beacon of light and hope.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Dorothy’s memory by extending kindness and love to those around you, in the same way she did throughout her life.
