In Loving Memory

Gloria “Dorothy” Jean Nunnery
March 25, 1950 — May 14, 2026
Gloria "Dorothy" Jean Nunnery, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed peacefully at her home in Wewahitchka on May 14, 2026, at the age of 76. Born on March 25, 1950, in the historic coal town of Welch, West Virginia, Dorothy was the heart and light of her family, spreading warmth and kindness wherever she went.
The daughter of the late Jack Terry and Elouise Toole Terry, Dorothy was one of seven siblings. She is predeceased by her parents and siblings—Jack Terry, Jimmy Terry, Linda Knowles, Joann Terry, Cathy Gainous, and Rebecca “Becky” Nugent—as well as her stepson, Jeremy Jay Nunnery. Though she has left this world, their reunion in the hereafter is a comforting thought for those she leaves behind.
Dorothy is survived by her devoted husband of 23 years, Harold Nunnery, who stood by her side in love and faith. Together, they built a life full of cherished memories and endless devotion. Dorothy's legacy of love continues through her four children: David Newsome (Jamie), George Newsome (Lisa), Stacey Hayes, and Katrina Nunnery (Lamar). Her heart overflowed with pride for her nine grandchildren—A.J. Hayes, Cassie Hayes (Emilly), Rebekah Newsome (Matthew), Austin Guffey (Shayla), Cody Johnson, CaseXX Johnson (Briana), Braydon Nunnery (Meagan), Trevor Nunnery (Shelby), and Auburn Nunnery. She was further blessed with thirteen great-grandchildren: Kynslee, Jasper, Maycee, Mason, Millie, Maggie, Memphis, Charlie, Chandler, Emilia, Lilly, Amos, and Porter.
Dorothy's life was a testament to the power of love, faith, and family. She devoted her early career to the well-being of others as a dietitian, and later became a full-time stay-at-home wife and mother. Her nurturing spirit earned her the affectionate title of "Granny," (Dot) a name spoken with love by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she delighted in helping raise.
A woman of deep faith, Dorothy's greatest joy was her relationship with The Lord. Sundays were spent in reverent worship with her husband along with her little buddy Jasper and she found immense peace and comfort in God's word. Her home was a sanctuary of love and acceptance, where no stranger went unwelcomed. Known for her kindness, her mothering nature, and a gentle stubbornness that often brought a smile, Dorothy's life was a beacon of love.
Dorothy's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Emerald Coast Hospice for their compassionate care during her final days. As they mourn her passing, they find solace in the scripture that Dorothy held dear: "To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord." — 2 Corinthians 5:8.
Dorothy leaves behind a legacy of love and faith that continues to shine brightly in the lives of all who knew her. Her memory will forever be cherished, her life celebrated, and her love eternally remembered. Her life will continue on through her family.
