March 25, 1950 — May 14, 2026

It is with profound sorrow and heartfelt gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Gloria “Dorothy” Jean Nunnery, who departed this earthly realm on May 14, 2026. She was born on March 25, 1950, in the gentle hills of Welch, West Virginia, and concluded her journey peacefully at her cherished home in Wewahitchka, surrounded by the love of her family. Dorothy was the beloved daughter of James Terry and Elouise Toole Terry, both of whom preceded her in death. She was also greeted in eternal rest by her siblings Jack Terry, Jimmy Terry, Linda Knowles, Joann Terry, Cathy Gainous, and Rebecca “Becky” Nugent, as well as her stepson Jeremy Jay Nunnery. Though we mourn her absence, we celebrate the joyous reunion with her family in the embrace of the Lord. Dorothy's legacy is one woven with the threads of kindness, love, and a nurturing spirit. Known affectionately as “Dot,” she was a beacon of warmth and hospitality, welcoming everyone with open arms and an open heart. Her home was a sanctuary where no one was a stranger, and love was the universal language. Her life was a testament to her unwavering faith and devotion to her family. Dorothy found her greatest joy in her relationship with the Lord, and Sundays were a sacred time spent in worship with her devoted husband of 23 years, Harold Nunnery. Together, they built a life filled with love and laughter, and she was the cornerstone of their family. Dorothy's love extended to her children, David Newsome (Jamie), George Newsome (Lisa), Stacey Hayes, and Katrina Nunnery (Lamar), who carry forward her legacy of love and compassion. She was a beloved “Dot” to her nine grandchildren: A.J. Hayes, Cassie Hayes (Emilly), Rebekah Newsome (Matthew), Austin Guffey (Shayla), Cody Johnson, Case Johnson (Briana), Braydon Nunnery (Meagan), Trevor Nunnery (Shelby), and Auburn Nunnery, as well as thirteen great-grandchildren: Kynslee, Jasper, Maycee, Mason, Millie, Maggie, Memphis, Charlie, Chandler, Emilia, Lilly, Amos, and Porter. Each of them holds memories of a grandmother who was their constant cheerleader, confidante, and source of unconditional love. Dorothy’s professional life as a dietitian was marked by her dedication to the well-being of others, but her true calling was as a full-time mother and grandmother, roles she embraced fully and joyfully. She found immense pleasure in participating in the lives of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, particularly cherishing moments spent with her little buddy, Jasper. Her life was a reflection of her personal characteristics: she was fiercely loving, sometimes stubborn, but always with a heart full of grace and kindness. Dorothy touched countless lives with her mothering nature and compassionate spirit, leaving an indelible mark on all who were fortunate to know her. In addition to her immediate family, Dorothy is survived by many nieces and nephews, and her brother-in-law Joe Nugent, all of whom enriched her life and shared in the love that defined her existence. The family extends their deepest gratitude to Emerald Coast Hospice for their compassionate care and support during Dorothy’s final days. Their kindness was a blessing to both Dorothy and her family. In this time of sorrow, we find solace in the words of Corinthians 5:8, “To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.” While Dorothy is no longer with us in body, her spirit resides in the hearts of those she loved and in the presence of her Savior. Dorothy’s life will be celebrated at a service to be held at her beloved church, where her faith and love illuminated the lives of many. As we gather to honor her memory, let us remember the love she gave so freely and strive to carry forward her legacy of kindness and devotion. Rest peacefully, dear Dorothy, in the arms of the Lord you so faithfully served. Your love will forever be our guiding light.
