March 25, 1950 — May 14, 2026

With heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived, we announce the peaceful passing of Gloria “Dorothy” Jean Nunnery on May 14, 2026, at her cherished home in Wewahitchka. Born on March 25, 1950, in the small town of Welch, West Virginia, Dorothy was a beacon of love, warmth, and faith, touching the lives of everyone who had the privilege to know her. Dorothy was welcomed into the world by her loving parents, James Terry and Elouise Toole Terry. Growing up in a large, close-knit family, she learned the values of kindness, resilience, and selfless love from an early age. She was predeceased by her parents, her siblings Jack Terry, Jimmy Terry, Linda Knowles, Joann Terry, Cathy Gainous, and Rebecca “Becky” Nugent, and her beloved step-son, Jeremy Jay Nunnery. Each of these losses was profound, yet Dorothy’s spirit remained unbroken, her faith unwavering. She was a devoted wife to Harold Nunnery, with whom she shared 23 beautiful years of marriage. Together, they built a family defined by love and commitment. Dorothy is survived by her four children, David Newsome (Jamie), George Newsome (Lisa), Stacey Hayes, and Katrina Nunnery (Lamar), who continue to carry forward her legacy of compassion and strength. Her nine grandchildren—A.J. Hayes, Cassie Hayes (Emilly), Rebekah Newsome (Matthew), Austin Guffey (Shayla), Cody Johnson, Case Johnson (Briana), Braydon Nunnery (Meagan), Trevor Nunnery (Shelby), and Auburn Nunnery—were the light of her life, as were her thirteen great-grandchildren: Kynslee, Jasper, Maycee, Mason, Millie, Maggie, Memphis, Charlie, Chandler, Emilia, Lilly, Amos, and Porter. Dorothy’s life was a testament to her faith and her unwavering belief in the goodness of the human spirit. She found her greatest joy in The Lord, regularly attending church services with Harold, listening to His word, and drawing strength from her spiritual community. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her immediate family as she embraced the role of a stay-at-home wife, mother, and doting "Granny Dot" with open arms and a full heart. Known for her kindness, Dorothy’s home was a sanctuary for all who entered, welcoming friends and strangers alike with warmth and generosity. Her mothering nature was complemented by a delightful stubbornness, which those closest to her lovingly recognized as a sign of her steadfast dedication to her beliefs and her loved ones. Dorothy’s life was enriched by the simple pleasures of family gatherings, the laughter of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and the company of her little buddy, Jasper. Her love for God and family was her guiding light, bringing her peace and comfort throughout her life. In their time of loss, the family extends their deepest gratitude to Emerald Coast Hospice for their compassionate care and support in Dorothy’s final days. “To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.” — Corinthians 5:8. Dorothy’s family takes solace in this scripture, confident that she is now at peace in the presence of her Savior. A celebration of Dorothy’s life will be held to honor her memory, her kindness, and her unwavering faith. She will be remembered not only for the love she shared but for the legacy of grace and strength she leaves behind. May her soul rest in eternal peace, embraced by the love of The Lord she so cherished.
