In Loving Memory

Gloria “Dorothy” Jean Nunnery
March 25, 1950 — May 14, 2026
Gloria "Dorothy" Jean Nunnery, a beacon of love and kindness, peacefully departed from this world on May 14, 2026, at her cherished home. Born on March 25, 1950, in the close-knit town of Welch, West Virginia, Dorothy was a gentle soul whose life was a testament to her unwavering faith, deep love for family, and boundless generosity.
Dorothy was the beloved daughter of James Terry and Elouise Toole Terry, who predeceased her, alongside her siblings: Jack Terry, Jimmy Terry, Linda Knowles, Joann Terry, Cathy Gainous, and Rebecca "Becky" Nugent. Her step-son, Jeremy Jay Nunnery, also preceded her in passing. Despite these losses, Dorothy's spirit remained resilient, reflecting her steadfast belief in the eternal promise of faith.
In January of 2003, Dorothy found her life partner in Harold Nunnery, with whom she shared a devoted marriage of 23 years. Together, they created a warm and welcoming home, filled with love and laughter. Dorothy leaves behind a legacy of love through her four children: David Newsome (Jamie), George Newsome (Lisa), Stacey Hayes, and Katrina Nunnery (Lamar), as well as nine grandchildren: A.J. Hayes, Cassie Hayes (Emilly), Rebekah Newsome (Matthew), Austin Guffey (Shayla), Cody Johnson, Case Johnson (Briana), Braydon Nunnery (Meagan), Trevor Nunnery (Shelby), and Auburn Nunnery. Her family tree extends to thirteen great-grandchildren: Kynslee, Jasper, Maycee, Mason, Millie, Maggie, Memphis, Charlie, Chandler, Emilia, Lilly, Amos, and Porter, who brought her endless joy and pride.
Dorothy dedicated her early career to the service of others as a dietitian. However, her true calling emerged as she embraced the role of a full-time wife, mother, and cherished "Granny Dot." Her home was a haven of comfort and care, where every visitor felt like family, and no soul was a stranger.
Her devotion to The Lord was the cornerstone of her life. Sundays were sacred, spent in worship alongside her husband, absorbing the Word and finding solace in its teachings. Her faith was her guiding light, illuminating her path and providing comfort in times of need. Dorothy's nurturing spirit was evident in her love for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, particularly her "little buddy" Jasper, who held a special place in her heart.
Dorothy was renowned for her kindness and mothering nature. Her home was a sanctuary of warmth, her heart open to all who crossed her threshold. Though gentle, she possessed a quiet stubbornness, a testament to her strength and determination.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Emerald Coast Hospice for their compassionate care and support during Dorothy's final journey.
As we celebrate Dorothy's life, we find comfort in the words of Corinthians 5:8, "To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord." Her spirit now rests in eternal peace, embraced by the love she so freely gave in life.
In honoring Dorothy's legacy, we carry forward her teachings of love, faith, and kindness. Her memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her, and her spirit will continue to inspire all who follow in her footsteps.
