March 25, 1950 — May 14, 2026

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Gloria “Dorothy” Jean Nunnery, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, who peacefully entered eternal rest on May 14, 2026, at her cherished home in Wewahitchka. Born on March 25, 1950, in the humble town of Welch, West Virginia, Dorothy’s life was a testament to love, faith, and devotion. Dorothy was the treasured daughter of the late James Terry and Elouise Toole Terry. She grew up in a family rich with love and shared her childhood with siblings who predeceased her: Jack Terry, Jimmy Terry, Linda Knowles, Joann Terry, Cathy Gainous, and Rebecca “Becky” Nugent. She is also predeceased by her step-son, Jeremy Jay Nunnery. Her childhood was filled with the warmth of family and the values that would guide her throughout her life. In 2003, Dorothy married the love of her life, Harold Nunnery, embarking on a beautiful journey of 23 years together. Harold was not just her husband but her partner in faith, with whom she found great joy attending church and embracing the teachings of The Lord. Dorothy was a woman whose faith was her guiding light, and her Sundays were spent in spiritual enrichment, a testament to her deep and abiding love for God. Dorothy dedicated her early career to being a dietitian, where she nourished not just bodies but souls with her kindness and care. However, her true calling was as a full-time stay-at-home wife, mother, and "Granny Dot," roles she embraced with open arms and a generous heart. Her family was her world, and she poured her love and care into her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She leaves behind a legacy of love in her surviving family: her devoted husband, Harold; her children, David Newsome (Jamie), George Newsome (Lisa), Stacey Hayes, and Katrina Nunnery (Lamar); nine beloved grandchildren, A.J. Hayes, Cassie Hayes (Emilly), Rebekah Newsome (Matthew), Austin Guffey (Shayla), Cody Johnson, Case Johnson (Briana), Braydon Nunnery (Meagan), Trevor Nunnery (Shelby), and Auburn Nunnery; and thirteen great-grandchildren, Kynslee, Jasper, Maycee, Mason, Millie, Maggie, Memphis, Charlie, Chandler, Emilia, Lilly, Amos, and Porter. Additionally, she is survived by many nieces and nephews, along with her brother-in-law, Joe Nugent. Dorothy was known for her kindness and mothering nature, her heart as open as her door, welcoming every person with warmth and love. Her sometimes-stubborn spirit was a hallmark of her strength and determination, qualities that endeared her to all who knew her. Her love was a constant presence, one that enveloped her family and friends in comfort and care. In her later years, one of her greatest joys was spending time with her little buddy Jasper, her great-grandchild, who brought her endless delight. Her family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Emerald Coast Hospice for their compassionate care during Dorothy’s final days. In celebration of Dorothy’s life, we remember the words she held dear: “To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.” (Corinthians 5:8). Her spirit now rests in eternal peace, her faith rewarded with the presence of The Lord she so deeply loved. Dorothy’s journey on earth has ended, but her legacy of faith and love will endure in the hearts of all she touched. May her soul find rest and her memory be a blessing to us all.
