October 18, 1934 — September 24, 2026

It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved matriarch, Gloria Chappelle, on September 24, 2026. Born on October 18, 1934, in the quaint town of Jasper, Florida, Gloria’s life was a rich tapestry woven with family, love, and cherished traditions. She was a beacon of warmth and resilience, her spirit shining brightly in every life she touched. Gloria was the cherished daughter of Joseph and Libby Chappelle, who preceded her in death. Her early years in Jasper were filled with the strong roots of faith and family values, which she carried with her throughout her life. In 1952, she united in marriage with Joseph Chappelle Sr. in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and together they embarked on a journey of love and togetherness that would anchor their family. In search of new opportunities, Gloria moved to Philadelphia, a city that became her second home. There, she cultivated a life filled with Southern hospitality and warmth, building a legacy that spanned generations. Her family grew to include her beloved children: Majovie Mitchell Billups Sr., Joseph Chappelle, Albert Chappelle, and Yvette Chappelle. Her legacy further blossomed to include 42 grandchildren and an astounding 93 great-grandchildren, each a testament to her enduring spirit. Gloria's family takes immense pride in the love and wisdom she imparted, a legacy they carry forward with honor. She is survived by a host of grandchildren, including Alysa Billups-Khan, Majovie M. Billups Jr., Majovie M. Billups III, Joseph A. Billups, Yolanda Billups, Teresa Billups, Catherine Bland, Majovie Bland, Sherrie Billups, and Drasana Billups-Boukour, as well as many more who loved her dearly. Gloria also leaves behind a multitude of close friends who cherished her vibrant spirit and infectious smile. A woman of simple pleasures, Gloria found joy in watching old western films and cooking for her loved ones. Her home was a haven of comfort, filled with laughter and the aroma of delicious meals shared in the company of family. Her legacy of love, strength, and unity will continue to inspire and guide future generations. The family will hold a private funeral ceremony to honor Gloria’s life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Gloria’s memory to a charitable organization of your choice, reflecting her generous spirit and commitment to community. As we say goodbye, we hold Gloria’s memory close, forever in our hearts. Her life was a beautiful testament to love and family, and her legacy will continue to grow, just as she would have wished.
