Glen Alen VanLeeuwen
December 14, 1952 — April 29, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and deep respect that we announce the passing of Glen Alen VanLeeuwen, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, who departed this world on April 29, 2026, at the age of 73. Glen was born on December 14, 1952, in Salt Lake City, Utah, where he spent his formative years and graduated from Salt Lake High School in 1967.
Glen's life was marked by service, dedication, and a deep love for his family and community. At a young age, he answered the call of duty and was drafted into the United States Navy, serving aboard the USS Kirk as an electrician, achieving the rank of E4 or E5. His years of service during the Vietnam War were a testament to his courage and commitment. Glen was honorably discharged in 1975, a veteran whose contributions to his country will always be remembered.
In 1979, Glen married Brenda, with whom he shared a son, Glen Alen VanLeeuwen Jr., and many cherished memories. Though their paths diverged in 2003, Glen's love for his family remained steadfast. He found love again in 2004 with Cheryl, who brought three stepchildren into his life. Together, they shared a warm and loving home until Cheryl's passing.
Glen's professional life was as varied as it was fulfilling. He was a proud cab driver for many years, first with Yellow Cab and later with Ute Cab. In the latter part of his career, he became a familiar and friendly face as a door greeter at Walmart in Sandy, Utah. His warm smile and welcoming demeanor touched the lives of countless individuals who passed through those doors.
A man of diverse interests, Glen found joy in building models of warships and planes from the Vietnam era. His meticulous attention to detail and passion for history were reflected in each model he crafted, a hobby that brought him great peace and satisfaction.
Glen was predeceased by his father, Don VanLeeuwen, and his beloved second wife, Cheryl. He is survived by his son, Glen Alen VanLeeuwen Jr., and stepchildren, as well as nine adored grandchildren, who were the light of his life. Though he leaves behind no great-grandchildren, his legacy of love and kindness will undoubtedly continue through the generations.
A service to honor and celebrate Glen's life will be held on May 8, 2026, at 9:00 AM at Larkin Funeral Home, located at 260 E South Temple, Salt Lake City, Utah, 84111. Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Glen are invited to join in remembering a life well-lived.
As we bid farewell to Glen, we hold onto the memories of his kindness, humor, and unwavering dedication to those he loved. His spirit will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege to know him. May he rest in peace, knowing he was deeply loved and will be forever missed.
