Born on December 2, 1937, in Chicago, Illinois, Gladys lived a life rich with love, kindness, and unwavering devotion to her family. Gladys was the cherished daughter of William and Mary Johnson. She was welcomed into heaven by her parents, her brothers John and Jacob, her sister Mildred, her beloved son Melvin McAfee Sr., granddaughter Elsa McAfee, and great-grandson Melvin McAfee Jr. Though she is no longer with us, her spirit and legacy live on through the family she has left behind. A dedicated mother and grandmother, Gladys is survived by her loving children Anthony and Belinda, and her adoring grandchildren Ramael, Tiffany, Tyrone, Michael, Janice, Malik, Shawn, and Kristin. Her family was her pride and joy, and she devoted her life to their happiness and success. Her gentle spirit and nurturing nature left an indelible mark on all who knew her. Gladys’ life was a testament to her strength, resilience, and love for her family and community. She was a woman of grace and humility, who found joy in the simple pleasures of life and was always there to lend a helping hand to those in need. A service to honor and celebrate Gladys’ remarkable life will be held on September 24, 2026, at 11:00 AM. Her family invites all who knew her to join in remembering the beautiful life she led and the countless lives she touched. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Gladys’ memory to the American Cancer Society - Breast Cancer Fund, an organization close to her heart. Gladys McAfee will be forever remembered for her warmth, her smile, and her unwavering love. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion and generosity that will continue to inspire all who knew and loved her.
