In Loving Memory

Gladys Gourdine
July 13, 1935 — September 19, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Gladys Alston Gourdine, who left this world surrounded by love on September 19, 2026, at Unity Living Center. Gladys was born on July 13, 1935, in Franklin County, North Carolina, to the late James and Savannah Alston.
A beacon of strength and compassion, Gladys was a woman who touched many lives through her generosity and unwavering commitment to her community. She was the cherished wife of the late William Gourdine and the devoted mother to her sons, Arthur and Dwayne Gourdine, all of whom predeceased her. Her loving spirit is fondly remembered by her surviving sisters, Louise Alston, Della Bradley, Videle Johnson, and Dora Woods, as well as her two treasured grandchildren, who were the light of her life.
Gladys was predeceased by her dear sisters, Elizabeth Alston, Minnie Lee Alston, and Annie McKeller, along with her brothers, Rufus and Samuel Alston. Each of these family members held a special place in her heart, and their memories were a constant source of comfort and inspiration to her.
With a natural talent and passion for cooking, Gladys was the proud owner of a soul food restaurant, where her dishes were crafted with love and shared with joy. Her culinary creations nourished not only the bodies but also the souls of all who dined with her. Beyond her love for food, Gladys had an angelic voice and found joy in singing, sharing her gift with those around her.
For over 40 years, Gladys opened her heart and home as a foster care parent, embodying compassion and kindness. Her nurturing spirit provided a safe haven for countless children, and her legacy of love will continue through the lives she touched.
A service to honor and celebrate Gladys's remarkable life will be held on September 25, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Grace Unity Fellowship Church, located at 986 Joseph Avenue. Family and friends are invited to gather and pay tribute to a woman of grace and dignity, whose impact was felt far and wide.
Gladys Alston Gourdine's life was a testament to the power of love, kindness, and community. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy of love and service lives on in the hearts of those she touched.
