In Loving Memory
Gilman Lionel Chamberland
May 8, 1942 — February 7, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Gilman Lionel Chamberland, affectionately known as "Gil," who departed this world on February 7, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on May 8, 1942, in the quaint town of St. Agatha, Maine, Gil's journey through life was one of warmth, hard work, and cherished connections.
Gil was the beloved son of Raoul and Emilda (Sirois) Chamberland. He was reunited in eternal rest with his devoted wife, Geneva (Dumais) Chamberland, his parents, and a host of beloved family members, including sisters Diane Chamberland and Patricia Guimond, brother-in-laws Raymond Guimond, Clinton Dumais, Bob Thibodeau, Bert Beaulieu, Earl McGlaughlin, Raymond Theriault, and cherished friends Milton Guerrette and Roger Cyr. His beloved dogs Puppy, FiFi and Blackie 1 and 2. Their memories will forever be etched in the hearts of those who loved them.
A proud resident of Kensington, Connecticut, Gil was a man of many talents and passions. He began his career with Fafnir Bearing Company before bravely venturing into entrepreneurship with Gill and Sons Landscaping. Known endearingly as the "King of Wood," Gil was renowned for his meticulous precision in firewood measurement, a testament to his dedication and expertise. His work was more than just a profession; it was a labor of love that he shared with family and friends, often accompanied by a cigar and a beer during well-earned breaks.
Gil's life was enriched by his active participation in the French Club and St. Jean Baptiste of New Britain, as well as his involvement with the Senior Center in Kensington. A parishioner of St. Paul Church, he was a man of faith, community, and camaraderie.
He derived immense joy from simple pleasures—playing cards with family, casino trips, ice fishing, snowmobiling, listening to country music, senior outings, and dancing at celebrations. His laughter was a familiar sound at McDonald's coffee gatherings, and his presence was a cherished part of social clubs including the Berlin senior center where he delighted in meeting new people. Some of life adventures took him to St Agatha, Hawaii, Alaska, Lake Champlain and Myrtle Beach. Gil's love for life was infectious, and his companionship brought joy to many, including his dear girlfriend, Barbara Lewandoski, who stood lovingly by his side.
Gil leaves behind a legacy of love through his family: his sons, Russell and his wife Thuy of West Hartford, and Marc and his wife Aimee of Kensington. His grandchildren, Renee (Ivan) of Mass , Courtney (Ethan) of Michigan and Tyler of Kensington, were the pride and joy of his life. He also leaves behind sisters Rolande Beaulieu and Muriel McGlaughlin, brother Donald Chamberland, sister-in-law Rena (Roger) Pelletier and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family, all of whom will carry forward his spirit and values.
A celebration of Gil's life will be held on May 16, 2026, at 10:30 AM at St. Mary's Cemetery, 1141 Stanley St, New Britain, CT. Here, family and friends will gather to honor a life marked by kindness, dedication, and love. Followed by a celebration of life reception at the Italian Independent Club 16 Harding St Berlin, CT.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to Dr. Anthony Benaquista, the doctors, nurses, and hospice staff at the New Britain branch of The Hospital of Central Connecticut. Your kindness and support helped us navigate an incredibly painful time. We are profoundly thankful for your care.
Gilman Lionel Chamberland's legacy is one of love, laughter, and resilience. He touched the lives of many and will be dearly missed but lovingly remembered. May his memory continue to be a blessing to all who knew him.
