In Loving Memory of Giles Lloyd Pettit It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the peaceful passing of Giles Lloyd Pettit on May 13, 2026, at Cypress Care Facility, surrounded by loved ones. Born on June 3, 1935, in Leesburg, Florida, Giles was a beacon of joy and warmth to all who knew him, leaving behind a legacy that will be cherished by many generations to come. Giles was the beloved son of the late Maurice Seth Pettit and Carrie Elizabeth Smith, and he shared a special bond with his sister, the late Betty Simmons and his brother, best friend, and fishing partner the late Morris Pettit. He grew up in Leesburg, where he graduated from Leesburg High School in 1954. Shortly thereafter, Giles answered the call to serve his Country, proudly enlisting in the Army from 1955 to 1957. Then in The Army Resreves until 1962 On July 3, 1972, Giles married the love of his life, The late Rose Pettit, and together they built a beautiful family, raising nine children with love and devotion. Giles spirit lives on through his surviving children: Jeff Pettit, Michael Pettit, David See, and Greta See, along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. He is also preceded in death by his children, Rick Pettit, Robert Pettit, Tommy See, Debbie See, and Edwin See. Giles had a fulfilling career marked by dedication and hard work. He was a familiar face at Mid Florida Lakes and later became the garden shop manager for Kmart, where he shared his passion for gardening with others. His journey continued at Scott's Fertilizer Co., and he concluded his professional life at Central Garden before retiring. A man of faith, Giles was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Umatilla, where he found a community that shared his values and love for life. His kindness and generosity knew no bounds, and he touched countless lives with his warm smile and quick wit. Always ready to tell a joke or start a singalong, Giles brought joy to family gatherings, especially when singing "You Get a Line, I'll Get a Pole" with not just his grandchildren but eveveryone. Giles loved spending time by the water, whether fishing or enjoying the serenity of his condo in Daytona Beach with Rose. His sociable nature and zest for life made him a cherished friend to many, and his legacy is one of love, laughter, and kindness. A service to celebrate Giles' remarkable life will be held on May 30, 2026, at 1:00 PM at See's Ocklawaha Residence, located at 11060 SE 132nd Pl, Ocklawaha, Florida 32179. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Vitas Healthcare Services for their compassionate care, stating, "Thank you for doing what you do... We couldn't have done it without you." Giles Lloyd Pettit, a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather will be deeply missed but forever remembered. His legacy of love and laughter will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.
