Born on January 14, 1960, in the rolling hills of Tennessee, Gilbert was a man deeply rooted in the simple joys of life, whose heart was as expansive as the landscapes of his birthplace. Son of the late Opal Watkins and Robert and Bobbie Watkins, Gilbert grew up surrounded by the love and guidance of his parents, who predeceased him and undoubtedly welcomed him into heaven with open arms. He carried their teachings and love forward, influencing all who knew him with his kindness and unwavering faith. Gilbert attended Kirkman High School, where he forged friendships that lasted a lifetime. He was a dedicated and hardworking individual, channeling his efforts into his career at Acheson Foundry & Machine Works in Chattanooga, TN. Here, he was not just a respected colleague but a friend and mentor to many, always willing to lend a helping hand and share a smile. A man of deep faith, Gilbert was of Baptist belief, finding comfort and strength in his spirituality, which guided him through life's challenges and triumphs. His faith was a testament to his character, reflecting his gentle and compassionate nature. Outside of work and faith, Gilbert found joy in the tranquility of fishing, where he could connect with nature and reflect in solitude. He also loved the vibrant energy of flea markets, where he would spend countless hours surrounded by the pulse of life, searching for hidden treasures and engaging with fellow enthusiasts. Gilbert leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish his memory. He is survived by his devoted daughter, Cindy Willingham, and her husband, Joseph, who will always remember the wisdom and love he imparted. His granddaughter, Reagan Pollock, and her husband, Bryson, along with his great-grandson, Waylon Pollock, will carry his legacy forward, sharing in the stories and laughter he left behind. He was also dearly loved by special family members, James and Norma Rednowers, who were an integral part of his life. In honor of Gilbert's wishes, a private funeral ceremony will be held to celebrate his life, a reflection of the man who treasured intimate moments shared with family and close friends. As we say goodbye to Gilbert, let us remember the joy he brought to our lives, his steadfast faith, and his unwavering love for those he held dear. Though he has departed from this earthly realm, his spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have known him.
