Gil Purse

December 15, 1939 — February 1, 2008

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gil Purse, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and community member, who departed this life on February 1, 2008, after a brief battle with cancer. Gil was born on December 15, 1939, in Ferndale, Michigan, to A. Gilbert Purse and Marguerite (Richards) Purse. Gil was a man of many accomplishments and deep commitments, beginning with his education. He graduated from Southfield High School in 1957 and went on to earn his degree from Wayne State University in 1960. His time at university laid the foundation for a successful career in funeral service, where he touched many lives with his compassion and professionalism. For over 35 years, Gil owned and operated the J. Gilbert Purse Funeral Home, serving families in their times of need with dignity and care. His commitment to his work and the people he served was unparalleled, and he earned the respect and gratitude of all who knew him. Beyond his professional life, Gil was an enthusiastic member of the Tecumseh Club, where he built lasting friendships and contributed to the community. He was also a passionate fisherman, finding peace and joy in the quiet beauty of nature. This hobby was more than a pastime; it was a source of solace and reflection throughout his life. Gil was predeceased by his cherished parents and his brother-in-law, James Morrish. He is survived by his loving family, who will forever hold his memory dear. Though his family chooses to grieve in private with a private ceremony, they are comforted by the outpouring of love and support from all who knew him. Gil's legacy will live on in the hearts of his family, including his beloved grandchild, who brought immense joy to his later years. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Gil’s honor to a charity of your choice. As we remember Gil, we celebrate a life well-lived, a heart well-loved, and a man who made a difference in the world. May he rest in peace, knowing he left an indelible mark on the lives he touched.
