It is with heavy hearts, yet immense gratitude for a life beautifully lived, that we announce the peaceful passing of Getrude Samantha Williams on June 19, 2026, at the age of 88. Born on September 10, 1937, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Getrude was a beacon of love, warmth, and wisdom to all who knew her. Getrude was the cherished daughter of the late John and Sarah Williams, who raised her with values that she carried throughout her life—kindness, resilience, and a deep sense of community. She brought these values with her when she moved to Sacramento, California, where she met and married the love of her life, Josua Williams, on October 23, 1956. Their marriage of nearly seven decades was a testament to enduring love and partnership. Together, Getrude and Josua built a family rooted in love and devotion. She is survived by her loving husband, Josua, and their four children, who brought her immense pride and joy: Brewer (Katherine) Williams, Leon (Jennifer) Williams, Jeane (Worder) Calvery, and Mary Ann (John) Byrd. Getrude was also the beloved grandmother to 12 grandchildren, each of whom she cherished and nurtured with her gentle spirit and boundless love. Getrude’s life was one of quiet strength and unwavering dedication to her family and community. She had a passion for gardening, where she found solace and joy, and her home was always filled with the vibrant colors of her blooms. Getrude was also a talented cook, known for her warm kitchen and the inviting aromas of her famous gumbo, which brought family and friends together around her table. A woman of deep faith, Getrude was an active member of her church community, where she offered her time and talents in service to others. Her compassionate nature and generous spirit left an indelible mark on everyone she met, and her legacy of love and kindness will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her. A service to honor and celebrate the life of Getrude Samantha Williams will be held on June 22, 2026, at 2:00 PM at the Golden Gate Chaplin, located at 100 Executive Blvd. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all who have offered their prayers and support during this difficult time. Your kindness and presence have been a source of great comfort. Getrude’s family invites you to join them in remembering a life well-lived and a woman deeply loved.
