Geraldo Vara Mercado
January 30, 1949 — April 22, 2026
It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Geraldo Vara Mercado, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, on April 22, 2026. Born on January 30, 1949, in San Antonio, Texas, Geraldo was a man whose laughter filled every room he entered and whose presence was as infectious as it was comforting. He was 77 years old.
Geraldo was the cherished son of Enrique and Adelina Mercado, who instilled in him the values of hard work, love, and resilience. These values defined his life and guided him in every endeavor he undertook. He was predeceased by his beloved daughter, Jeanette Mercado, and his grandson, Andre, losses that he carried with grace and fortitude.
Geraldo's life was a testament to dedication and passion. He worked tirelessly as a truck driver for ConAgra, a career that spanned decades and allowed him to provide for his family while indulging his love for the open road. Beyond his career, Geraldo was a gifted musician, whose talent for fixing instruments was matched only by his joy in playing them.
A true renaissance man, Geraldo's hobbies and interests were as varied as they were fulfilling. He was an avid fisherman, finding peace and solace by the water's edge. He delighted in the thrill of yard sales, always on the hunt for a hidden treasure or a piece of history. His culinary skills were legendary, and he shared his love through the meals he prepared for family and friends.
Above all, Geraldo was a family man. He is survived by his devoted wife, Yolanda, who stood by his side through every high and every low. His legacy lives on through his children, Jason and Geraldo Jr, who embody his strength and kindness. He was the proud grandfather of 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immense joy to his life and who will carry his spirit forward.
Geraldo loved fiercely and unconditionally, creating a family bond that will endure for generations. His laughter, warmth, and unwavering love will be deeply missed but never forgotten. His family and friends will forever cherish the memories of his infectious smile and the light he brought into their lives.
A service to celebrate Geraldo's life will be held on April 29, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church. Family, friends, and all whose lives he touched are invited to join in honoring this remarkable man who leaves behind a legacy of love and joy.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice, in Geraldo's memory, as a tribute to his generous spirit and lifelong dedication to helping others.
Rest in peace, Geraldo. May your laughter echo in the hearts of those who loved you, forever.
