It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Gerald Thomas Cummings on March 15, 2026, at Sparrow Hospital. Born on August 5, 1949, in Jackson, Michigan, Jerry, as he was affectionately known, lived a life rich with laughter, love, and cherished memories.
Jerry, the son of Tom and Jean Cummings, who preceded him in death, along with his sister, Mary Kay Howard. He is survived by his devoted wife, Margie Jaber Cummings, with whom he shared a beautiful marriage since August 28, 2005. Jerry was a proud father to his children, Eric, Emily, Crystal, Monica, Tanya, and Joanna, and grandfather to six adored grandchildren. He also leaves behind his brothers, Mike, Pat, and Tom, who shared in many of his adventures.
A graduate of Jackson Community College, Jerry earned his degree in accounting in 1985, evidence of his dedication and perseverance. He spent many years as a machine operator, mastering the intricacies of CNC machines.
Outside of his professional life, Jerry was a man of many passions. An avid bowler, he achieved the remarkable feat of bowling several 800 series and 300 games. His love for the game was mirrored in his fondness for golf, as well as his enjoyment of camping, cooking, poker, cards and watching college sports with a devotion for Michigan State. A true sports fan, he held a deep love for the Detroit Tigers.
Jerry was a man renowned for his sense of humor and quick wit, traits that endeared him to all who knew him. His passion and quirky nature shone through in his love for dad jokes, the comfort of greasy spoons, and the timeless allure of classic westerns. Jerry the ability to light up a room with laughter and warmth.
Jerry's life will be celebrated on April 11, 2026, at 1:00 PM at the Friendship Circle in East Lansing. Family and friends are all welcome to honor his memory and celebrate a life well-lived.
As we bid farewell to Jerry, we hold dear the legacy of love and laughter that he leaves behind. His spirit will forever live on in the hearts of his family and friends, and in the cherished memories that will continue to bring solace and smiles in the days to come.
