Gerald Rhey Atchison Jr., a beloved husband, devoted father, and dedicated public servant, passed away on July 7, 2026, at the age of 53. Born on November 16, 1972, in Amarillo, Texas, Gerald was the cherished son of Gerald and Elaine Atchison. His journey through life touched many, leaving an indelible mark on those who knew him.
Gerald was a man of integrity and commitment, exemplified by his distinguished career with the sheriff's office. Beginning as a detention officer in September 2003, Gerald's dedication to public safety and justice was evident as he graduated from the TJC Police Academy in 2005, earning his peace officer license. His career evolved as he served in various capacities, including patrol division, detective in the criminal investigation division, telecommunications operator, and most recently, as a property and evidence technician—a role he held for approximately four years. His colleagues and the community he served remember him for his unwavering professionalism and compassion.
In his personal life, Gerald was a pillar of strength and kindness. He married the love of his life in 2000, and together they built a life full of love and shared dreams. Gerald was a devoted husband to Gail Atchison and a loving father to Caleb Atchison, both of whom survive him and will forever cherish his memory. He was predeceased by the beloved members of his family, Nathan David, Sara Hope, and Abbi Grace Atchison, who are now reunited with him in peace.
Faith was central to Gerald's life, and he was an active member of the Trinity Bible Church, where he found fellowship and spiritual fulfillment. His faith guided him and provided solace to those he comforted in his community.
A service to honor and celebrate Gerald's life will be held on July 11, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Grace Community Church, located at 3215 Old Jacksonville Hwy, Tyler, TX 75701. Family, friends, and colleagues are welcome to join in remembering the remarkable life of a man who gave so much to others.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Gerald's memory to a charity of your choice, reflecting his spirit of generosity and care for others.
Gerald Rhey Atchison Jr.'s legacy of service, love, and faith will continue to inspire all who knew him. He will be profoundly missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
