Gerald Mack Mealer, a cherished pillar of his community and beloved family man, passed away peacefully at his home on July 11, 2026, at the age of 80. Born on April 26, 1946, in the Pleasant Hill Community, Gerald was the devoted son of Leammon and Martha (Branscum) Mealer.
Gerald's early life was marked by his graduation from Timbo High School in 1964, a testament to his dedication and determination. In 1971, he married the love of his life, Linda Long Mealer, and together they shared 52 wonderful years, raising a family enriched with love and laughter. Together, they nurtured four children, and their legacy continues through their sons, Byron and Kris (Benita) Mealer, and their daughter Kimm (Todd) Avey. Gerald's sister, Charlotte (Kenny) Gaines, also survives him, along with a loving brood of grandchildren: Nicole Hitchcock, Ashtyn Edwards, Jared Boswell, Nick Boswell, Kaitlin Head, Briana Eddington, and Britney Hochard, as well as great-grandchildren: Asia'h, Kamden, Buck, Ryker, Finn, Pyper, Taelyn, Adyson, Maya, Lyla, and Walker.
Preceding Gerald in death are his parents, his cherished wife Linda, his son Randy Mealer, his grandson Matthew Mealer, and his sister Violet Mealer Cates. Though their absence is deeply felt, their memories continue to illuminate the lives of those they touched.
Gerald was a hardworking and respected businessman, owning Mealer Drywall, where he left his mark on most homes in Stone County. His craftsmanship and dedication were evident in every project he undertook, earning him the respect and gratitude of many.
A devout member of the Timbo Missionary Baptist Church, Gerald's faith was evident in his everyday life and in his love for gospel music. Singing, especially bass, brought him immense joy and was one of his truest passions. He was known for his warm, welcoming spirit, always greeting family and friends with a song or a rhyme. These little melodies remain a treasured memory for those who knew him.
Gerald's home was a sanctuary of warmth and laughter, where everyone was welcomed and encouraged to enjoy life. He cherished family gatherings, ensuring everyone had a good time, and he was particularly fond of indulging in sweets, a simple pleasure that brought him happiness.
A funeral service to honor and celebrate Gerald's life will be held on July 17, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Big Springs Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Gerald's memory to a charity of choice, as a testament to his generous spirit.
