Gerald L. Goodling, affectionately known to friends and family as Jerry, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2026, leaving behind a legacy filled with love, adventure, and an indomitable spirit. Born on November 7, 1938, in Thompsontown, PA, Jerry was the cherished son of the late Earl and Beatrice (Steimling) Goodling. He was also predeceased by his beloved sister, Shirley Goodling Davis. Jerry is survived by his devoted wife, Linda, who stood by his side through life's many adventures. He leaves behind his beloved children, Keith Goodling (Dawn) and Kirk Goodling (Leslie), as well as his siblings, Romayne Goodling Dewitsky (Michael) and Mary Lou Sload (Jim). Jerry was a proud grandfather to five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immense joy to his life. Jerry's journey through life was marked by a deep passion for automobiles, racing, and an unwavering dedication to his family and friends. He began his career at Donegal Steel Foundry in Marietta, then turned to managing Clearview Lanes in the 1960s and subsequently took on the challenge of entrepreneurship by owning Jerry's Esso in Mt. Joy. His love for speed was evident as he raced his Olds 442 at York US 30 Drag-o-way. Later, Jerry found his calling in the trucking industry, operating Goodling Trucking Company and navigating the roads from Pennsylvania to California. A man of many talents, Jerry was also a skilled automobile mechanic and a pioneer in the world of CB radios, running Goodlings CB Shop from 1975 to 1979. His love for bowling was not just a pastime; it was a passion that he shared with countless others as a coach and mentor. Countless bowlers who benefited from his instruction and influence are in various Bowling Hall of Fames, including his wife and both sons. Known for his prolific storytelling, Jerry was a natural teacher who effortlessly imparted life lessons through his rich tapestry of experiences. Jerry's warmth and kindness were as vast as the miles he traveled. He had an uncanny ability to befriend strangers and leave an indelible mark on everyone he met. His stories were legendary, filled with humor, wisdom, and a touch of mischief, always ready to offer guidance or simply brighten a day. A celebration of Jerry's life will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2026, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at the Mount Calvary Ministry Center, located at 45 Veterans Drive, Elizabethtown, PA 17022. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the exceptional nurses at Penn State Health Lancaster's ICU for their compassionate care during Jerry's final days. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests that donations be made in Jerry's memory to a charity of your choice, reflecting the spirit of generosity that Jerry embodied throughout his life. Jerry L. Goodling will forever be remembered for his boundless energy, his love for life, and the incredible stories that will continue to echo in the hearts of those who knew him.
