May 6, 1949 — July 12, 2026

Gerald “Jerry” Dornbusch, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, peacefully departed this world on July 12, 2026, at the age of 77. Born on May 6, 1949, in Morris, Minnesota, Jerry was the cherished son of Bob and Mazy (Dahlgren) Dornbusch. His journey through life was marked by selfless service, hard work, and an unwavering love for those around him. Jerry was a devoted family man, deeply in love with his wife, Linda, whom he married on February 23, 1968, in Webster, South Dakota. They later took their vows at St Lawrence Catholic Church in Milbank, SD. Together, they shared 58 wonderful years, filled with laughter, adventure, and enduring love. Their son, Eric Dornbusch, was the pride and joy of Jerry’s life, and he cherished every moment spent with Eric, nurturing his passions and dreams. Jerry is also survived by his brother, Jim (Anita) Dornbusch of Pierre, SD, and brother-in-law, Larry Wojahn of Big Stone City, SD. He is reunited in eternal peace with his parents, Bob and Mazy, his son, Gerald Jr., and siblings, Pam Wojahn, Steve Dornbusch, and Joe Dornbusch. An alumnus of St. Lawrence Catholic grade school and Milbank High School, Jerry was a proud patriot who served his country with honor in the US Army from 1967 to 1972. A decorated combat veteran, he completed two tours in Vietnam and also spent time stationed in Germany. His military service was a testament to his courage and commitment to the values he held dear. After his honorable discharge, Jerry and Linda settled in Aberdeen, SD, where he honed his skills as a welder at Safety Service. The couple later returned to Milbank, where Jerry embarked on a 25-year career as a semi-truck driver for Cold Spring Granite quarry. His work ethic and dedication were unparalleled. Following this chapter, he dedicated 22 years to St. Williams Home in the maintenance department, showcasing his knack for repairing and restoring anything that needed repairing. Jerry’s love for the outdoors was as vast as the landscapes he explored. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, with goose hunting holding a special place in his heart. His adventures with Eric, his brothers, and his dear friend Ron Waterfall were filled with camaraderie and joy. Jerry also enjoyed participating in the Milbank trap league, shooting alongside his brothers on a successful team. Known for his generosity, Jerry’s legacy is one of kindness and creativity. He had an exceptional ability to see potential where others saw none, transforming discarded items into works of art. His giving spirit and willingness to lend a helping hand left a lasting imprint on all who knew him. A celebration of Jerry’s life will be held at the Mundwiler Funeral Home in Milbank, SD. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to St. Williams Care Center, Milbank, SD, in Jerry’s memory, honoring the place where he spent many dedicated years.
