In Loving Memory

Gerald (Jerry) Corey
February 25, 1938 — October 14, 2026
Gerald "Jerry" Corey, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on October 14, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on February 25, 1938, in Elma, Washington, Jerry was the cherished son of Theodore (Ted) Manning Corey and Geraldine Catherine (Hawkins) Corey. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Jack, Dick, Donald, Teddy, Larry, Corrine Clary, and Betty Renecker Nelson, and his dear daughter, Julie Ann, who passed away in 2010.
Jerry's life was filled with love, adventure, and dedication to his family. He is survived by his loving daughters, Cheryl Royal of Winlock, WA, and Wendy Gunning (Benj) of Coeur d'Alene, ID. His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren: April Gloy (Mark) of Freeport, FL, Dustin Roberts of Portland, OR, Gabe Gunning of Naples, ID, and Colton Gunning of Coeur d'Alene, ID.
In 1957, Jerry married his high school sweetheart, Carol Jean Close, in Coeur d'Alene, ID. Together, they were married until Carol's passing in July 2008. Jerry later found companionship in his close friendship with Sharrie Shante of Curtis, WA, who brought joy to his life.
Jerry was a proud graduate of Shelton High School, Class of 1957. He furthered his education at Western Washington University, where he lettered in college football. He often juggled multiple jobs to support his young family. Among his many memorable roles was working in the seasonal harvest of Christmas trees, working as a prison guard, and working at the local timber mill. He later dedicated his life to the timber industry. Jerry's passion for the outdoors led him to establish his own timber purchase/sales and logging business.
His love for nature extended beyond his career, as Jerry was an avid hunter and fisherman. He found immense joy in training and hunting with his dogs, and cherished every hunting season, whether it was for deer, elk, or fishing for salmon, halibut, steelhead, and trout. Jerry's annual fishing and camping trips with his grandchildren were a testament to his love for his family and the great outdoors.
Those who knew Jerry will remember his deep affection for his dogs, various horses and cows, and his kind and generous spirit. He often expressed that the best part of his life had been the time spent with his children and grandchildren, and the love he shared with his extended family and friends.
In honor of Jerry's memory, the family kindly suggests donations to be made to a charity of your choice. Jerry's warmth, love, and strength will forever remain in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know him.
